30/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift 

Quick action by a neighbor slowed the advance of a fire in a home at 1732 George Warren Drive in the Town of Williams, Wednesday evening 30-November at 20:54. Callers to 9-1-1 reported smoke coming from the home. Flames were visible from the rear of the structure from the area of a bathroom. A neighbor broke the rear window and used a garden hose to spray water into the room slowing the advance of the fire. Click here for more information.

30/November/2016 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

A 51 year old North Carolina man suffered serious injuries after his Sprinter Van struck a tree Wednesday morning 30-November at 00:56. The vehicle was traveling southbound on I-95 near the 43 mile marker when the driver reportedly swerved to avoid a deer. The van lost control, entered the median and struck an oak tree. The van received heavy damage, while the driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Click here for more information.

28/November/2016 – MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac – “B” Shift

Four people were injured in a high speed single vehicle collision on I-95 at Exit 53 Monday morning 28-November at 09:40. The 2005 Dodge Pickup Truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The truck crossed both travel lanes and entered the ditch just south of the overpass where it skidded sideways and began to flip over. Click here for more information.

24/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift 

A suspicious fire destroyed the interior of a singlewide mobile home at 43 Hardee Circle 24-Novmber at 23:26. Engine 19 arrived to find the residential building well involved. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire and quickly knocked down the bulk of the flames within ten minutes containing the damage to the interior of the building. Crews had to pull some siding from the north end of the building to gain access the burning debris inside. Click here for more information.

Firefighters assisted Clerk of Court Pat Grant with decorating the Courthouse for the upcoming Christmas holidays Tuesday morning 22-November. Station #1 along with Logistics and personnel from the Fire Marshal’s Office assisted. It takes about an hour to hang all the decorations. Click here for more information.

18/November/2016 – Fatal Auto Pedestrian MVC – “A” Shift

A 60 year old Walterboro man was fatally injured Friday evening at the intersection of Bells Hwy. and Mount Carmel Road. The incident occurred at 18:43, when the man was crossing Bells Highway. Witnesses advised the man walked into the traffic and was narrowly missed by one west bound car, when he was struck by a west bound Chevrolet Tahoe. Click here for more information.
11/18/2016 - Fire-Rescue will be participating in the Shop with Santa’s Heroes event sponsored by the Walterboro Police Department on Saturday 10-December. They are in need of emergency responders to escort a child on the shopping spree at Wal-Mart and for donations. If you are available to escort a child, please notify headquarters. They will meet at the County Parking Lot at 07:00. Breakfast is provided by Cook Enterprises each year. Any monetary donations can be dropped off at headquarters before 05-December as well. Your assistance can provide a memorable Christmas for a needy child in our community.

17/November/2016 – Fatal MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

A Ritter woman was killed in a high speed single car MVC in the 5700 block of Green Pond Hwy. Thursday evening 17-November. 9-1-1 was notified on the accident at 20:45. The northbound Nissan Maxima left the roadway and struck a tree on the south side of the highway causing heavy damage to the vehicle. The unrestrained driver was trapped in the wreckage. 16/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift 

Fire-Rescue units were sent to 304 Carolina Circle Wednesday morning 16-November at 03:02. Engine 19 arrived to find a single story residential dwelling with flames visible from the roof. All occupants had safely exited the structure. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the fire which was burning throughout the attic. 15/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A doublewide mobile home received heavy damage during an afternoon fire at 488 Jessie Lane Tuesday afternoon 15-November. At 15:20, a neighbor reported flames coming from the roof of the residence which is located at the end of rural cul-de-sac. Engine 9 arrived to find the building approximately 25% involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines and made entry through the front door. Click here for more information.

14-November-2016 – Commendation for Life Saving Awards

The Fire-Rescue Commission recognized seven employees for life saving during the monthly Commission Meeting held Monday evening 14-November. Engineer-Paramedic Robert Gregory, Engineer-EMT Cody Hutto and Firefighter-EMT Brad Welch were recognized for rescuing a wheel chair bound woman from a house fire near Cottageville during Hurricane Matthew last month. 12/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A doublewide mobile home was heavily damaged in an early morning fire at 519 Fourth Street Saturday morning 12-November. Engine 19 arrived at 01:33 to find the residence approximately 70% involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the fire and quickly knocked the flames. Most of the roof and floor on the rear unit had burned away. Click here for more information.

11/November/2016 – Multi-Fatal MVC w/entrapment and Air Evac – “B” Shift 

Four people died in a two vehicle high speed collision on Interstate 95 near the 44 mile marker southbound, Friday morning 11-November at 03:58. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find a tractor trailer off in the woods. A passenger car had been struck in the rear and also pushed into the woods. The larger truck crushed the car and drove on top of the vehicle trapping all four rear passengers and the adult female driver. Click here for more information.

10/November/2016 – Fatal Motorcycle MVC – “B” Shift 

An adult male died from injuries received when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck on Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) at the intersection of Jacksonboro Road in the Town of Cottageville, Thursday afternoon 10-November at 16:22. The man was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the highway. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station 9 arrived two minutes later to find the man unconscious in the highway. Click here for more information.

Grace Advent Christian Church is hosting a First Responder Appreciation BBQ Luncheon Sunday November 6th at the church located at 398 Mount Carmel Road. The church service will begin at 11:00, with the luncheon following the service. The luncheon is open to all First Responders.

01/November/2016 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

An adult female was injured as she narrowly escaped a structure fire Tuesday morning 01-November. At 09:05, Fire-Rescue was alerted for smoke coming from a home at 14436 Lowcountry Hwy. Engine 18 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions and flames visible from the south side of the single story residential structure. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines and forced entry through the front door. Click here for more information.
