28-Sept-2012 – MVC w/entrapment & Air Evac. –“A” Shift

A two car collision on Sniders Highway across from Ladson Lane resulted in one man being trapped and another man being air lifted to a trauma center. The accident occurred at 18:17, Friday evening 28-September when one car reportedly turned into the path of the other. Fire-Rescue units were on the scene within two minutes to find both vehicles with heavy damage. Click here for additional information. 

 

27-Sept-2012 – Auto Pedestrian MVC – “C” Shift

At 20:31, Thursday evening 27-September, a 52 year old Walterboro man who was riding a bicycle, was struck by a southbound Nissan Altima on Green Pond Highway (SC Hwy 303) just north of Cooks Hill Road. The man, who was wearing a reflective safety vest, helmet and had flashing LED lights on the front and rear of his bike, was thrown into the ditch. Click here for additional information.

 

25-Sept-2012 – Fatal Auto Pedestrian Accident – “A” Shift
Incident # 12-05268 – An approximately 80 year old Columbia man has died from injuries he received after being struck by a car in the 2200 block of Palmetto Blvd at Edisto Beach Tuesday evening 25-September at 19:31. Edisto Beach Fire Department and Fire-Rescue Medic 20 treated the man for critical multiple traumatic injuries at the scene. He was found unconscious with the car receiving heavy damage. Medic 20 transported him to the golf driving range to meet with the LifeNet 7 Medical Helicopter. The man was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston where he later passed away due to his injuries. Edisto Police and the Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.  Engine 14 and Medic 20 responded.

9/24/2012-
Congratulations to Station 23 Captain Doug Mixson Jr on being appointed Postmaster of the Walterboro Post Office. Mixson began his full-time career with the Postal Service as the youngest Postmaster in America, after being assigned those duties in the Town of Williams many years ago. He has since served in that position in Smoaks and most recently in Ruffin.

24-Sept-2012 – Stabbing Incident – “C” Shift

A 65 year old man received a stab wound to the neck during what is believed to be a domestic altercation Monday afternoon, 24-September. At 17:33 a woman found the man in her yard at in the 200 block of Savage Street. She notified 9-1-1 and assisted the man with a towel to retard the bleeding. Walterboro Public Safety Officers arrived minutes later, securing the scene for Firefighter-Paramedics. Click here for more info.

 

9/23/2012-
Congratulations to Assistant Fire Marshal Mikey Banks and Firefighter/EMT-I Jordan Eaddy for passing their National Registry Paramedic written and practical examinations.

21-September-2012 – Paramedic Graduation

Assistant Fire Marshal Michael Banks and Firefighter-EMT-I Jordan Eaddy completed Paramedic Training this weekend. Both personnel graduated from Rescue Training in Savannah GA Friday afternoon. The intense training course involves over 1200 hours of classroom and clinical training. Banks was awarded the “David S. Bacon, Jr., Best of the Best Paramedic Award” for his efforts during the class. Click here for more info.  

 

21-September-2012 – MVC w/ejection & Air Evacuation

A 22 year old Walterboro woman is in critical condition after being ejected from a car. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on Rivers Street near Jackson Road Friday morning 21-September at 09:47, when it left the roadway and struck several trees. The woman was thrown from the car, landing in the woods. The car suffered heavy damage. Click here for additional information.

 

19/Sept/2012 – MVC w/entrapment & Air Evacuation

A Summerville man was extricated from his car following a high speed MVC on Augusta Highway Wednesday evening, 19-September. The 41 year old man’s small Chevrolet Tracker was struck in the driver’s side by a full sized Ford Pickup truck causing heavy damage to the small SUV. The man received multiple traumatic injuries, was trapped in the wreckage... click here for additional information. 

 

9/19/2012- National Fallen Firefighters (NFFF) Memorial Weekend

Colleton County Fire-Rescue is honored to be streaming coverage of the 2012 NFFF Memorial Weekend live from Emmitsburg, MD on this website.  The candlelight service will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 18:30 and the Memorial Service will be Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 10:00.  More information will be available on this website prior to the event.

Our condolences go out to Firefighter/EMT Dale Kizer for the death of his grandfather, Mr. Julius W. Wimberly.  The Viweing will be at Bryant Funeral Home, 607 N. Parlor Ave St. George, SC for 6 to 8 pm on Thursday September 20, 2012. The funeral will be at Mt Zion Baptist Church  114 Baptist Drive, St. George, SC at 2 PM on Friday September 21st.

9/18/2012-
Funeral Announcement – Robert “Bob” Borders 86, a past volunteer fire chief with the former Cottageville Fire Department, passed away Monday at a John’s Island Nursing Home. Borders retired as a Game Warden and worked briefly as the Chief of Police in Cottageville, then served as fire chief in the early 1990s, prior to the formation of Fire-Rescue. Visitation will be held at Herndon’s Funeral Home located at 1193 Bells Highway in Walterboro, Wednesday evening 19-September from 18:00 to 20:00. The funeral service will be held at the same location Thursday afternoon at 14:00. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery on Mount Carmel Road following the funeral service.

17/Sept/2012 – MVC with Air Evacuation – “B” Shift

A New Jersey man is in critical condition following a collision with a tractor trailer on I-95 Monday evening 17-September at 21:40. The accident occurred near the 54 mile marker southbound, when a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling at a high rate of speed drove under the rear of a moving northbound tractor trailer. The small SUV received heavy front end damage and became wedged under the trailer. Click here for more information.

 

17/Sept/2012 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A yard fire destroyed a portion of a wooden fence and damaged two workshops Monday morning 17-Sept. At 04:27, a passing motorist reported seeing one of the buildings on fire with flames in the backyard at 360 Auld Brass Road. Engine 19 arrived five minutes later to find light smoke coming from one workshop and flames burning the exterior of the 15 x 15 building. Click here for additional information.

 

13-Sept-2012 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A fire in the kitchen caused the death of a family pet and damaged a home at 206 Edgewood Street at 13:53 Thursday afternoon 13-Sept. Engine 19 arrived to find moderate smoke conditions coming from a singlewide mobile home. Firefighters made entry through the front door, encountering thick smoke and heat inside the structure. They found the fire in the center of the building in the kitchen. Click here for more information.

 

11-September-2012 - September 11th Anniversary

Bobbi and Arnold Greene prepared their annual lasagna dinner for our firefighters on September 11th and a SCFA Firefighter Simulation class that was taking place at Station # 19. This is the tenth year they have provided the meal in remembrance of the events surrounding the terrorist attacks that occurred in our country in 2001. Click here for additional information.

 

05/Sept/2012 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A fire in a home at 159 Knights Ave heavily damaged the structure Wednesday evening 5-Spetember. At 22:21, 9-1-1 was notified of smoke and flames coming from the single family dwelling located on the corner of Knights and Rose Ave in the Lakeshore Subdivision. Engine 19 arrived four minutes later to find heavy smoke conditions with flames coming from the windows...click here for more information.

 

01-September-2012 - MVC - "C" Shift

An early morning accident has left one man in serious condition. The accident occurred on Broxton Bridge Highway (US Hwy 601) at 03:42 Saturday morning 01-Sept at the Colleton/Hampton County line. The vehicle was crossing the swamp and reached a point between the two bridges, when a large tree fell on his car crushing the vehicle. Click here for additional information.
