04/February/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift

A Walterboro man was critically injured in a single car MVC in the 400 block of Bedon Road Saturday afternoon 04-February at 18:39. The northbound Hyundai Sonata was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it failed to negotiate a curve and entered the southbound ditch. The car traveled in the ditch until it struck a driveway culvert, became airborne and struck a large pine tree approximately four feet off of the ground. The car then landed in the middle of the road, overturned twice and flipped over in the northbound ditch. The unrestrained driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the car. 31/January/2023 - Auto Pedestrian MVC - "A" Shift

An adult male on a bicycle collided with a passenger car at the intersection of Robertson Blvd and Francis Street Tuesday evening 31-January at 19:10. The man received a head injury during the collision. Several bystanders stopped to render aid and block the traffic to keep another car from hitting the man who was lying in the middle of the dark roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived and treated the man at the scene. He was immobilized, then transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. 23/January/2023 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Three people were injured, one severely, in a single vehicle roll-over accident in the 100 block of Jones Swamp Road, Monday afternoon 23-January at 13:01. A southbound Toyota Avalon lost control after clearing a curve. The vehicle entered the ditch, then struck a driveway culvert causing the car to flip over. An unrestrained female was ejected through the back window. Initial calls to 9-1-1 indicated multiple patients, so two additional Fire-Rescue ambulances were assigned to the incident. 20/January/2023 - Woods/Structure Fire - "B" Shift

A woods fire burned several acres and damaged two buildings at the corner of Wolfe Creek Rd and Ruffin at 14:42 Friday 20-January. A bystander reported the fire and then woke the subjects inside a mobile home. They used a garden hose on the storage building until Engine 26 arrived . Firefighters deployed two handlines to extinguish the fire and the Forestry Commission was requested. The fire caused moderate damage to the storage building and the nearby mobile home. 17/January/2023 - Woods/Structure Fire - "B" Shift

An unattended trash pile fire spread by light winds, burned approx. 1-1/2 acres of grass and woods, before reaching the neighbor's property. The fire then damaged and destroyed a wooden privacy fence, several lawn mowers and equipment and damaged two storage buildings. At 14:00 Station # 19 was dispatched to the woods fire. While enroute, additional callers to 9-1-1 reported a building on fire. The incident was upgraded to a structure fire, with three additional stations added to the response. 06/January/23 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

A grass fire spread out of control and damaged a singlewide mobile home in the 200 block of Sixth Street Friday afternoon 06-January. At 15:16, a neighbor called reporting the grass fire which was spreading throughout the yard at a residence at 210. About five minutes later a second caller reported the fire was burning a boat and wooden deck on the residence. Engine 19 arrived to find the yard, boat, deck and underpinning on fire.  Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline to the home. Click here for additional information.
05/January/23 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

An adult male was flown to a trauma center following a motorcycle accident in the 12000 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) north of the Town of Cottageville, Thursday afternoon 05-January at 11:59. Witnesses advised it appeared the man suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. The three wheeled motorcycle overturned in a ditch. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene for both a medical and traumatic condition. Click here for additional information.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of County Councilman Gene Whetsell who passed away at home last night following a long illness. Mr. Whetsell served as one of the original Fire-Rescue Commissioners and Vice Chairman of the Commission for 10 years (1994 to 2004) until he ran for a Council seat. He has served on the County Council for 20 years and was a great supporter of the Fire-Rescue Program for the entire time. His wisdom and support will be missed. Please remember his family in your prayers. A visitation for Councilman "Poppa" Gene Whetsell will be held at the Colleton County High School Performing Arts Center, 150 Cougar Nation Drive, north of Walterboro, Sunday afternoon 08-January from 13:00 to 15:00. Funeral Services will be held at the same location beginning at 15:00.

01-Jan-2023 - Structure Fire - "C Shift

The first response of 2023 was received at 03:23 in the 3500 block of Combahee Rd. A fire alarm activation was received at 9-1-1, followed by a caller advising a residence was on fire. Engine 13 arrived at the "big house" at Bluff Plantation, a three story structure, finding smoke coming from the building. Crews met with the property manager and found the interior of the building charged with smoke and fire in one wall and in the 30 foot vaulted ceiling. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building. The homeowners were awakened to the smell of smoke before the fire alarm was activated.  Click here for additional information.
