6/28/2011- Structure Fires (B-shift)

Engine 11 was dispatched to a woods fire in the 1000 block of Mars Old Field Road Tuesday afternoon 28-June at 14:12. On arrival at 1018 Mars Old Field Road, they found an approximately 3-1/2 acre woods fire, with four structures burning and a double wide mobile home threatened. 6/27/2011-
We wish to congratulate Station 15 Firefighter Jared Polk and his wife Carey on the birth of their first child.  Addison Summer Polk was born 21-June and weighed 8 lbs 10 oz and was 21 inches long.  Both the baby and mother are doing fine. Fire-Rescue Commission Chairman LaVern Polk and his wife Carolyn are the proud grandparents.
 

6/26/2011- Structure Fire (C-shift)

Firefighters responded to a storage building fire behind 3512 Bells Highway Sunday evening 26-June at 23:00. Car 118 arrived to find a fully involved 16’x24’ storage building with a nearby barn endangered. Engine 26 arrived minutes later, deploying one 1-3/4 hand line. Crews removed several pieces of small machinery and air conditioners from the building to conduct overhaul.  Click here for additional information.

 

6/25/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

A kitchen fire caused moderate damage to a Buffalo Lane home Saturday afternoon 25-June. The incident was reported at 15:40 at 1012 Buffalo Lane when a fire on the stove spread to the cabinets and wall. Engine 19 arrived in 5 minutes to find light smoke coming from the singlewide mobile home. Firefighters deployed one 1-3/4 handline and quickly knocked the fire, containing it to the kitchen. 6/24/2011-
Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Jonathan Pinckney and his wife on the birth of their son, Logan Davis Pinckney.  Logan was born weighing 8 lbs. 1 oz. and is 20 & 1/4 inches long.  Both mother and son are doing great.

6/23/2011- Two Structure Fires (C-shift)

At 16:07 Thursday afternoon 23-June, 9-1-1 Operators received multiple calls reporting explosions and a barn on fire in the 1800 block of Rivers Street. While units were responding, dispatchers advised callers were reporting a house on fire as well, with a woods fire and two mobile homes and a storage building threatened. 6/23/2011- MVC with entrapment & air evacuation (C-shift)

A Florida man received critical injuries in a single car MVC on I-95 at the 51 mile marker southbound Thursday morning 23-June at 09:08. The small Pontiac Grand Am left the roadway and struck a large tree in the median. There were no skid marks and it is believed the man may have fallen asleep. 6/23/2011- MVC with entrapment (C-shift)

A high speed single vehicle MVC in front of 24846 Augusta Highway sent two people to the hospital Thursday morning at 08:12. A small west bound Chevrolet Aveo was on Augusta Highway when it crossed the roadway on a straight portion of the road and went down an embankment on the eastbound side of the highway. 6/23/2011- MVC with reported ejection (C-shift)

Law Enforcement is trying to determine the circumstances surrounding a single vehicle MVC in the 400 block of Mount Carmel Road Thursday morning 23-June. Engine and Medic 26  were dispatched to the location at 08:00 reporting a vehicle accident with a person ejected from the car. They arrived to find an adult male bleeding, lying in the center of Mount Carmel Road. Click here for additional information.

 

6/21/2011- MVC with Air Evacuation (A-shift)

A single vehicle MVC resulted in one man being flown to a Trauma Center and a woman being transported to Colleton Medical Center. The accident occurred in the 11000 block of Hendersonville Highway (US Hwy 17-A) near the Jonesville Community at 22:12 Tuesday evening 21-June. The northbound small car appeared to have left the roadway before striking a concrete culvert. Click here for additional information.

 

6/20/2011- Structure Fire (C-shift)

A smoke alarm is credited with saving a young man’s life following a mid-afternoon fire at 868 Dandridge Road in the Hyde Park Subdivision. The fire was reported Monday, 20-June at 14:51. The caller advised there was smoke and flames coming from the home. A 20 year old man was inside the building, claiming he was awakened by the smoke alarm. He was able to safely exit the residence. 6/14/2011- Shooting Incident (C-shift)

Multiple units responded to a shooting incident at 22 Klein Street, the County Detention Center at 12:30 Tuesday afternoon 14-June. Walterboro and County Law Enforcement are still investigating the incident which has been labeled as a domestic dispute. Medic 1 was dispatched to the sally port at the rear of the jail reporting three people shot. Medic 19 was then assigned to the response. Click here for additional information.

 

6/10/2011- S.C. Firefighters Conference in Myrtle Beach

The Annual South Carolina Firefighters Conference was held in Myrtle Beach from June 6-11, 2011. Two Firefighters from CCFR participated in the Firefighter Combat Challenge and placed sixth out of thirteen teams in the tandem competition. Additionally, Captain Scott Feather presented as an instructor at the conference.  Click here for additional information.

 

6/10/2011- MVC with Entrapment (B-shift)

Station 1 responded as mutual aid to the City of Walterboro Public Safety to perform an extrication, Friday morning 10-June at 10:34. The two car MVC at the intersection of South Jefferies Blvd and Beechwood Road resulted in one injured man being trapped in the vehicle. The man suffered non-life threatening traumatic injuries, but the doors on the small car were damaged and could not be opened manually. Click here for more info.

 

6/9/2011
Visitation for Retired Firefighter Vernon Rahn will be held at Herndon Funeral Home in Walterboro, Thursday evening from 18:00 to 21:00. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 at the Rice Patch Christian Church on Sniders Highway in the Islandton Community. 

Visitation for Dispatcher Shawna Scott will be held at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro, Friday evening from 18:00 to 20:00. Funeral Services will be held at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home Saturday morning at 11:00.   

6/7/2011-
Our condolences go out to the family of retired firefighter Vernon Rahn who passed away this afternoon.  He was a long time and charter member of Stations 10 & 15 in the Islandton Community.  We will provide funeral arrangements as soon as they are received.

6/5/2011- MVC/MCI with air evacuation – “C” Shift

One person died and eight others were injured, in a two vehicle accident on I-95 at the 63 mile marker northbound Sunday evening 05-June. The accident was reported at 2213. Witnesses stated both vehicles were traveling northbound in the left (fast) lane. A Toyota pickup truck had just cleared the bridge over McLeod Road when it rapidly approached a slow moving or nearly stopped Dodge van. Click here for more information.

 

6/5/2011- MVC with ejection (C-shift)

A twenty eight year old Orangeburg man was left in critical condition after being ejected from a car at the 44 mile marker southbound Sunday afternoon 5-June. The single vehicle accident occurred on I-95 at 1454. The southbound SUV left the roadway and struck a tree in the median. The vehicle then flipped over, ejecting the driver in the process. Colleton County Sheriff’s Office Communications Officer Shawna Scott passed away Sunday morning (June 5, 2011). A fund has been established to assist her family at First Federal Bank in Walterboro. Anyone wishing to assist the Scott Family may make a donation at any First Federal Branch. Please remember her husband, Sheriff’s Office Detective Jeff Scott and their daughter Katie in your prayers. We will pass on any funeral arrangements as soon as we receive them.

6/1/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

A homeowner used a garden hose to save his residence Wednesday evening 01-June. After a fire broke out on the stove at 134 Franklin Street at 21:19, the flames quickly spread into the cabinets in and around the appliance, filling the home with smoke. Residents safely fled the building, but Edward McCall returned with a garden hose to combat the fire. Click here for additional information.

 

6/1/2011- MVC with Injuries (B-shift)

A seatbelt is credited with saving the life of a 21 year old man following a high speed MVC on Possum Corner Road. The northbound Jeep Cherokee left the roadway in a curve, then struck a tree, before over-turning multiple times. The vehicle received heavy damage in the collision and came to rest upright on the southbound shoulder. The accident was reported at 0918 just north of Saratoga Lane. 6/1/2011- MVC with Air Evacuation (A-shift)

Medic 6 and Engine 6 responded to a single vehicle high speed MVC in the 400 block of Wisteria Drive at 01:59 Wednesday morning 01-June. Medic 6 arrived to find the northbound vehicle overturned in the woods on the southbound side of the road. The vehicle had rolled over before entering the woods backwards receiving heavy rear end and roof damage. Click here for additional information.
