28/December/2022 - MVC with entrapment & Air Evac - "C" Shift

At 18:46 on Wednesday 28-December, a southbound Honda Accord left the roadway in a curve in the 2800 block of Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) north of Phillips Road. The vehicle rode the ditch, before striking a driveway culvert. The small car became airborne, then flipped over four times before coming to rest on its roof. The unrestrained adult male driver was thrown into the back seat and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. He was trapped in the wreckage. 27/December/2022 - Overturned Machinery with Entrapment - "B" Shift

An adult male died from injuries received after a mini-excavator he was operating overturned. The man was thrown from the device and the machine rolled over on him trapping him under the machinery. At 17:20, the man's wife found him and called 9-1-1. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later to the property located at the end of Firebird Lane, but the man had no signs of life. It is not known how long he was under the excavator. Crews used a jack and cribbing to lift the excavator off of the man. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. 25/December/2022 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

At 19:07, 9-1-1 was notified of a structure fire at 182 Mamie Lane in the Jacksonboro Community. Engine 2 arrived to find flames coming from the front eaves of the single story residential dwelling. The family had used several fire extinguishers to knock down the flames prior to Fire-Rescues arrival. Firefighter-Paramedics used one handline to extinguish the flames on the outside of the building. Crews pulled a portion of the ceiling in two rooms to reach the fire in the attic. 25/December/2022 - Structure Fire with injuries & Air Evac - "C" Shift

A 70 yr old woman was burned and her home was severely damaged in a late afternoon structure fire at 1193 Strickland Farm Rd west of the Town of Smoaks on Christmas Day. Firefighters successfully rescued six animals from the burning structure. At 17:59, 9-1-1 Operators received several 9-1-1 hang up calls. They were able to finally get in touch with the caller who advised the home was on fire and she was injured. Engine 7 arrived to find flames coming from the singlewide mobile home with the building interior approximately 50% involved. Click here for additional information.

Firefighter/Paramedic David Campbell with the Rock Hill Fire Department died in a motor vehicle collision on his way to work yesterday morning in his personal vehicle.  FF/P Campbell had accepted a position with our department and was scheduled to join our team on January 23rd.  Although he was not officially a member of our department yet, he was part of our fire service family.  Please keep FF/P Campbell's family and the Rock Hill Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers.

We offer condolences to Fleet Management Director Jack Wright and his family on the passing of his father, Jack Wright, Sr. who died 21-December at Trident Medical Center. Jack Sr. served the Colleton Community as a volunteer firefighter with the former Colleton Rural Fire Department. He was also a career Captain with the Parris Island Fire Dept. He was 81 years old. Visitation will be held beginning at 13:00, Tuesday 27-Dec at Northside Christian Church, 200 Northside Drive, Walterboro. The funeral service will follow at 14:00.

21/December/2022 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

Fire-Rescue responded to a well involved structure fire at 426 Wedgeon Road early Wednesday morning 21-December at 01:40. Engine 19 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions and flames coming from several windows of the singlewide mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building and made entry through the front door. It took about 20 minutes to gain control of the fire which was also burning underneath the building. Crews used chainsaws to remove a portion of the front wall and several sections of the floor to reach the flames. Click here for additional information.
20/December/2022 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

An adult male received serious burns during an explosion inside his home Tuesday evening 20-December. At 20:28, 9-1-1 was notified of a residence on fire in the 100 block of Crumbley Road. The caller advised a man had been burned. Engine 30 arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke conditions and flames coming from the doublewide mobile home. The injured man was in the front yard. His next door neighbors heard the explosion and ran to assist him. They were providing care when Fire-Rescue arrived. 19/December/2022 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

At 13:59, 9-1-1 received a report of smoke coming from the roof of a residence in the 300 block of Jonesville Ave. Engine 13 arrived to find smoke coming the eves of a single story wood frame dwelling. Firefighter-Paramedics used thermal imaging cameras to locate the source of the smoke and pulled the ceiling in several places to reach the fire in the attic. The fire was electrical in nature and several wires had shorted, damaging several wooden rafters. The fire was quickly extinguished, saving the home and contents. 17/December/2022 - Shopping with Santa's Heroes

The annual Shop with Santa's Heroes event was held Saturday morning 17-December. The event is coordinated by the Walterboro Police Department and brought responders from Fire-Rescue, Walterboro Police Dept., Colleton County Sheriff's Office, SC Highway Patrol, SC DNR, Walterboro Fire Dept. and Colleton County DSS.  Over 20 local children were selected by DSS to participate. Businesses and individuals donate funds each year to make the event a success and bring a brighter Christmas to local children. Click here for additional information.
13/December/2022 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift

An adult female was shot in a shooting incident at 955 Silkhope Lane in the Johnsville Community north of the Town of Smoaks, Tuesday evening 13-Dec at 21:11. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman at the scene and requested a medical helicopter. CARE Flight responded and landed in a field across the street from the location. The woman was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. 13/December/2022 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

A Ruffin home was destroyed in an afternoon fire in the 900 block of Patriot Lane Tuesday 13-December. At 12:10, 9-1-1 received a third party call advising a home at the end of Patriot Lane was on fire. Engine 18 arrived to find the singlewide mobile had already collapsed. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to extinguish the fire. A winch from Battalion 1 was used to remove the metal roof to allow Firefighters to overhaul the burning debris underneath the roof. The occupant was able to safely escape the home. 10/December/2022 - High Speed MVC - "B" Shift

A 19 year old Ruffin teenager suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a head injury after his 2015 Toyota 4-Runner collided with a tractor trailer in the 1900 block of Bells Hwy at I-95 Saturday morning 10-Dec at 07:13. The 4-Runner drove under the semi-trailer causing heavy damage to the small SUV. Firefighter-Paramedics assisted the teenager from the vehicle and began treating his many injuries. A medical helicopter was not immediately available. Fire-Rescue Medic 26 transported him emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. We offer condolences to Firefighter-Paramedic Angie Stewart and her husband Mitch Stewart on the death of Angie's father, Mendell Valentine who passed away today. Funeral services will be held Monday at 14:00 at the North Walterboro Baptist Church, 2177 Jefferies Hwy., A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 13:00. Please remember the Stewart and Valentine families in your prayers.

We offer condolences to Firefighter-Paramedic Rommel Kirchoff and his family. Rommel's brother, Ralph "Blink" Kirchoff passed away 17-November-2022 in Missouri. He was 70 years old. Please remember the Kirchoff family in your prayers.
05-December-2022 - Home Explosion with Injuries - "A" Shift

A 76 yr old Smoaks man was severely injured after his home exploded Monday evening 05-December. At 19:59, 9-1-1 began receiving calls about an explosion near the Johnsville Community north of the Town of Smoaks. People as far away as Orangeburg and Round O reported hearing the explosion with Colleton 9-1-1 receiving over a dozen calls. The man's large home was completely destroyed with debris littering and blocking the 1900 block of Community Ave. The remains of the home were on fire and four vehicles were also damaged. 03/December/2022 – Fire-Rescue Christmas Dinner
After a two-year absence due to Covid, Fire-Rescue held the annual countywide Christmas and Awards Dinner at the Colleton Middle School 03-December. Close to 200 Firefighters, family members and dignitaries including two new Councilmen, Bubba Tripp and Scott Biering attended. Service awards were presented to the personnel listed below. Everyone enjoyed fellowship, a great meal and celebrated the Christmas season together. Dinner was provided by Billy Stallings. Click here for more information.
01/December/2022 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

Two people were burned and a singlewide mobile home was destroyed in an evening fire in the 8900 block of Lodge Highway in the Town of Lodge Thursday 01-December. At 22:51, Colleton County 9-1-1 was notified of the fire. The original call had been routed to Bamberg County 9-1-1. A father was awakened to smoke and heat in the home and discovered a fire in an infant's bedroom. He advised the bassinet was already melting. He was able to quickly save his daughter and exit the burning structure, along with the child's mother. Flames and smoke were coming from the residence. Click here for additional information.
