II-Paramedic Cody Williams and his wife Amanda on the birth of a son, Wyatt
Holt Williams. Wyatt, who was born 26-December, weighed 7 pounds and 12
ounces. Both Wyatt and his mom are doing fine. |

13-December-2017 Fatal Structure Fire C Shift Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a residential fire at 06:20 Wednesday morning 13-December. The initial caller to 9-1-1 advised a woman was trapped and the whole house was on fire. The home is located at 3053 Berea Road in a rural area approximately 7 miles west of the town of Smoaks near Bamberg County. An off duty Colleton Battalion Chief who lives a few miles from the scene was the first to arrive. Click here for more information. |

12-December-2017 Explorer Training The Countys Firefighter Explorers trained on several rescue tools at their monthly meeting Tuesday night 12-December. The group practiced with the Holmatro Hydraulic tools and Holmatro High Pressure Air Bags. After familiarization with the equipment, each Explorer used the Hydraulic Spreaders in a large game of Jenga, using cribbing blocks to perfect their operating skills. 12-December-2017 Apparatus MVC C Shift While parked at the scene of a structure fire at 11515 Mt. Carmel Road Tuesday evening 12-December, Battalion 1s vehicle was struck by a passing motorist. The force of the impact pushed the Pickup truck from the shoulder of the southbound lane into the ditch of the northbound lane. No one was in the Fire vehicle at the time of the accident and several units had already cleared the scene. Click here for more information. |

12-December-2017 Structure Fire C Shift A fire in a kitchen appliance quickly spread through a portion of a residence Tuesday afternoon 12-December. At 15:49, Fire-Rescue was notified of a fire in a toaster at 11515 Mount Carmel Road. Engine 7 arrived a short time later to find heavy smoke coming from a singlewide mobile home. Firefighters deployed one 1-3/4 handline and stopped the spread of the fire. It caused heavy damage to the kitchen and living room. Click here for more information. |

11-December-2017 Camper Fire B Shift A small camper located at a hunting lodge caught fire Monday evening 11-December. Persons nearby heard an explosion and found the camper ablaze. They called 9-1-1 and located a garden hose to begin to extinguish the fire. Engine 19 arrived a short time later to find smoke coming from the camper. Firefighters removed several cabinets and extinguished the remaining fire inside the structure. Click here for more information. |

11-December-2017 Farming Accident B Shift A 63 yr. old man was injured when his hand became entangled in a corn picker implement Monday afternoon 11-December. The incident occurred while the man was harvesting corn in a field off of the 12200 block of Green Pond Hwy. Some corn became lodged in the machine and the operator tried to pull the stuck corn out of the device when his glove was caught in the rollers. Fortunately the machine choked down and shut off. 08/December/2017 Fire Academy Graduation Firefighter II Jacob Mixson and Firefighter II Max
Rudolph graduated from the South Carolina Fire Academys Recruit School
Friday afternoon 08-December. They were part of twenty participants who
completed the eight week training course in Columbia. The course exceeds the
NFPA Firefighter II curriculum and participants are certified as Medical
First Responders, Basic Firefighter, FLAG, HazMat Ops, IFSAC Firefighter I
and II and Auto Extrication. The Denny Auditorium was packed with family
members and dignitaries. They both hope to pursue a career in the fire
service. |

03/December/2017 Christmas Parade Fire-Rescue was one of many participants in the Colleton County Christmas Parade held Sunday evening 03-December. The parade was held at night and the many floats were decorated with Christmas lights. The followed Hampton Street to North Jefferies and then down Washington Street covering the downtown business district. Click here for more information. |

02/December/2017 Christmas Awards Dinner Fire-Rescue held its first countywide Christmas and
Awards Dinner at the Elks Lodge in Walterboro 02-December. 182 Firefighters,
family members and dignitaries attended. Service awards were presented to
the personnel listed below. Everyone enjoyed fellowship and a great meal and
celebrated the Christmas season together. |
