	12/30/2017 - We wish to congratulate Firefighter II-Paramedic Cody Williams and his wife Amanda on the birth of a son, Wyatt Holt Williams. Wyatt, who was born 26-December, weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces. Both Wyatt and his mom are doing fine.
	19/December/2017 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift A Walterboro mother and her son, narrowly escaped a fire in their home at 210 Enterprise Street Tuesday evening 19-December at 22:56. Callers to 9-1-1 reported flames coming from the home. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later to find the singlewide mobile home well involved. Crews deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and made entry through the front door. They encountered heavy fire conditions, but had the bulk of the flames knocked down in less than 10 minutes. 	18/December/2017 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift Two men were injured in a two vehicle, high speed head-on collision in the 8600 block of Green Pond Hwy Monday evening 18-December. At 18:34, 9-1-1 was notified of the accident with several callers providing different information. Callers advised two pickup trucks had struck head-on in a curve and one car was blocking the roadway and the other was overturned in a ditch. Click here for more information.
	17/December/2017 – Stabbing Incident – “B” Shift A 49 year old man was in critical condition following a stabbing incident that occurred in the 23000 block of Augusta Hwy Sunday evening 17-December at 21:42. A friend drove the man toward Colleton Medical Center in a private car but called 9-1-1 while enroute. Sheriff Deputies and Fire-Rescue units intercepted the vehicle on Sidneys Road, where Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man for his single stab wound to the torso. 	16/December/2017 – Fatal MVC with Entrapment – “A” Shift A mid-20’s Colleton County man died from injuries he received in a single car MVC in the 11000 block of Green Pond Hwy. Saturday afternoon 16-December. The accident was reported at 15:44 after a 2010 Mazda traveling southbound on Green Pond Hwy (SC Hwy. 303) left the roadway and struck a tree at the passenger door. The adult male front seat passenger received life threatening injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. Click here for more information.
	16/December/2017 – Shop With Santa’s Heroes Nine members of Fire-Rescue participated with over twenty other emergency responders and Colleton County DSS to bring a brighter Christmas to needy children in our community. The annual event is sponsored by the Walterboro Police Department who spearheads the collection of donations to purchase the gifts for the children. This year Walterboro Police, Fire-Rescue, Walterboro Fire Dept. and the Sheriff’s Office participated. Click here for more information.
	13/December/2017 – Fall Injury with Air Evac – “A” Shift A 23 year old man was in critical condition following fall from a building under construction at the Walterboro Sewage Treatment Plant located at 777 Gervais Street Wednesday afternoon at 16:39. Bystanders advised the man fell approximately 15 feet from the building and landed on concrete. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries including a head injury. 	13-December-2017 – Fatal Structure Fire – “C” Shift Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a residential fire at 06:20 Wednesday morning 13-December. The initial caller to 9-1-1 advised a woman was trapped and the whole house was on fire. The home is located at 3053 Berea Road in a rural area approximately 7 miles west of the town of Smoaks near Bamberg County. An off duty Colleton Battalion Chief who lives a few miles from the scene was the first to arrive. Click here for more information.
	12-December-2017 – Explorer Training The County’s Firefighter Explorers trained on several rescue tools at their monthly meeting Tuesday night 12-December. The group practiced with the Holmatro Hydraulic tools and Holmatro High Pressure Air Bags. After familiarization with the equipment, each Explorer used the Hydraulic Spreaders in a large game of Jenga, using cribbing blocks to perfect their operating skills. 	12-December-2017 – Apparatus MVC – “C” Shift While parked at the scene of a structure fire at 11515 Mt. Carmel Road Tuesday evening 12-December, Battalion 1’s vehicle was struck by a passing motorist. The force of the impact pushed the Pickup truck from the shoulder of the southbound lane into the ditch of the northbound lane. No one was in the Fire vehicle at the time of the accident and several units had already cleared the scene. Click here for more information.
	12-December-2017 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift A fire in a kitchen appliance quickly spread through a portion of a residence Tuesday afternoon 12-December. At 15:49, Fire-Rescue was notified of a fire in a toaster at 11515 Mount Carmel Road. Engine 7 arrived a short time later to find heavy smoke coming from a singlewide mobile home. Firefighters deployed one 1-3/4 handline and stopped the spread of the fire. It caused heavy damage to the kitchen and living room. Click here for more information.
	11-December-2017 – Camper Fire – “B” Shift A small camper located at a hunting lodge caught fire Monday evening 11-December. Persons nearby heard an explosion and found the camper ablaze. They called 9-1-1 and located a garden hose to begin to extinguish the fire. Engine 19 arrived a short time later to find smoke coming from the camper. Firefighters removed several cabinets and extinguished the remaining fire inside the structure. Click here for more information.
	11-December-2017 – Farming Accident – “B” Shift A 63 yr. old man was injured when his hand became entangled in a corn picker implement Monday afternoon 11-December. The incident occurred while the man was harvesting corn in a field off of the 12200 block of Green Pond Hwy. Some corn became lodged in the machine and the operator tried to pull the stuck corn out of the device when his glove was caught in the rollers. Fortunately the machine choked down and shut off. 	08/December/2017 – Fire Academy Graduation Firefighter II Jacob Mixson and Firefighter II Max Rudolph graduated from the South Carolina Fire Academy’s Recruit School Friday afternoon 08-December. They were part of twenty participants who completed the eight week training course in Columbia. The course exceeds the NFPA Firefighter II curriculum and participants are certified as Medical First Responders, Basic Firefighter, FLAG, HazMat Ops, IFSAC Firefighter I and II and Auto Extrication. The Denny Auditorium was packed with family members and dignitaries. They both hope to pursue a career in the fire service.
	06/December/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift A 43 year old Allendale woman received multiple traumatic injuries in a single car crash on Confederate Hwy. (SC Hwy 641) Wednesday 06-December at 10:40. The Dodge Dakota Pickup Truck left the roadway at a high rate of speed and began to flip over. The small truck struck a tree roof first, crushing the roof into the interior and trapping the driver. Firefighter-Paramedics used a reciprocating saw and several prybars to force open the door to free the woman. Click here for more information.
	03/December/2017 – Christmas Parade Fire-Rescue was one of many participants in the Colleton County Christmas Parade held Sunday evening 03-December. The parade was held at night and the many floats were decorated with Christmas lights. The followed Hampton Street to North Jefferies and then down Washington Street covering the downtown business district. Click here for more information.
	02/December/2017 – Christmas Awards Dinner Fire-Rescue held its first countywide Christmas and Awards Dinner at the Elks Lodge in Walterboro 02-December. 182 Firefighters, family members and dignitaries attended. Service awards were presented to the personnel listed below. Everyone enjoyed fellowship and a great meal and celebrated the Christmas season together. Click here for more information.

	01/December/2017 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift Firefighters responded to 15041 Cottageville Hwy near the county line for a house fire Friday morning 01-December at 11:40. Fire units arrived to find smoke coming all sides of the single story residential dwelling. Crews forced entry through the front door and quickly located the fire in a rear bedroom. Firefighters used one 1-3/4 handline to extinguish the fire and confine it to one room. The bedroom suffered heavy damage and the remainder of the home had smoke damage. 	01-December-2017 / Multi-vehicle MVC / “A” Shift One person was injured in a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) and Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) Friday morning 01-December at 09:52. A northbound log truck on Jefferies Hwy collided with a west bound Chevrolet Suburban that was on Augusta Hwy. The loaded log truck overturned following the collision spilling its cargo of timber on the highway blocking the entire highway. Click here for more information.
