30/March/2020 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Fire-Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 194 Siegler Drive Monday afternoon 30-March at 16:00. Engine 19 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a singlewide mobile home with flames venting from the rear of the structure. Crews deployed one 1-3/4 handline and quickly knocked down the fire in the kitchen. The remainder of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. The fire originated on the stove. The Sheriff’s Office is looking in the circumstances surrounding the fire.  Click here for more information.

24/March/2020 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A storage building was destroyed and a camper used as a residence was damaged in an early morning fire in the 400 block of Honey Lane, Tuesday morning 24-March. 9-1-1 was alerted to the fire at 03:09. Engine 19 arrived to find the approx. 15x20 storage building fully involved and the end of the camper was on fire. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines, one to extinguish the camper and one to protect a nearby exposure, a singlewide mobile home located approx. 7 feet from the camper. 21/March/2020 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A residential structure was heavily damaged in an afternoon fire Saturday 21-March at 16:10. Engine 19 arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the singlewide mobile home at 964 Redtail Court. The fire is thought to have started from an electrical problem and spread under the entire length of the mobile home before Fire-Rescue units arrived. The fire burned up into the walls in several areas and burned into the living room where the fire place was located. Click here for more information.

17/March/2020 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

A residential structure received moderate damage and the family was displaced following a fire in the kitchen Tuesday morning 17-March. The incident occurred at a Browntown Ln residence and reported at 01:40. Engine 13 arrived to find light smoke coming from the single family residential structure. Firefighter-Paramedics found the wall behind the refrigerator burning with flames extending across the ceiling. Crews deployed one 1-3/4 handline and quickly brought the fire under control. Crews checked for extension but the fire was contained to the area of origin. Click here for more information.

15/March/2020 – Multi-vehicle MVC – “B” Shift

A five vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 injured 11 people Sunday evening 15-March. The incident was reported at the 59 mile marker northbound at 21:31. Northbound traffic was slowing in the area when a northbound Mercedes struck one vehicle in the rear, entered the median, reentered the highway and struck a second vehicle in the rear causing heavy damage to all three cars. The third vehicle was pushed into a fourth vehicle on a trailer which damage it, the trailer and the truck pulling the trailer. Click here for more information.

12/March/2020 – Blood Delivery

Colleton County Fire-Rescue took delivery of its first shipment of whole blood from the Blood Connection Thursday morning 12-March. The units of blood were distributed to ambulances in several areas of the county as part of a Pilot Project approved by SC DHEC in December. After a year of meetings and presentations the department was given permission to perform whole blood transfusions in the pre-hospital setting on critical trauma and medical patients meeting certain criteria. Fire-Rescue plans to show that administering blood to the critical patients will improve survivability. Click here for more information.

11/March/2020 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

A Bent Gate Lane residence was destroyed in an early morning fire Wednesday 11-March. At 01:10, 9-1-1 was notified of the fire in a residence. Engine 7 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home well involved. The roof had already collapsed and most of the structure had already burned out. Crews deployed two hand lines and worked for about 25 minutes to extinguish the remaining fire. A second roof had been added to the building and both the new and old metal roofs had to be removed before Firefighters could finish dousing the flames. Click here for more information.

09/March/2020 – MVC with entrapment and Air Evac –“B” Shift

A 39 yr. old North Charleston man was seriously injured in a single car high speed MVC on Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64) at Nettles Ln Monday morning 09-March at 08:04. First arriving units found the vehicle down an embankment on the west bound side of the highway. The vehicle appeared to have dropped off of the shoulder, over-corrected and enter the ditch, striking a power pole and breaking it. The car received heavy damage, trapping the driver inside the wreckage. Click here for more information.

07/March/2020 – Emergency Services Softball Tournament

The 9th Annual Emergency Services Softball Tournament was held on 07-March-2020 at the Colleton County Recreation Center north of Walterboro. Only five teams participated this year for the tournament which is open to emergency service and military personnel. The departments participating this year where, Charleston Fire Dept., Mount Pleasant Fire Dept., Dorchester County Fire-Rescue, St. Johns Fire Dept and Colleton County Fire-Rescue. St. John’s Fire Dept took first place with Charleston Fire Dept snagging the second place trophy.  Click here for more information.
2/9/2020- We offer condolences to Station # 7 Captain John Graham on the death of his eldest son, John E. Graham Jr. who passed away last Thursday. Funeral Services will be conducted by Ott Funeral Home in Branchville and will be held at Smoaks’ Baptist Church 482 Lodge Hwy, Smoaks, Monday 10-February at 11:00. The burial will be held in the church cemetery. The Graham family will received friends one hour before the service at the church. Please remember their family in your prayers.

05/March/2020 – High Speed MVC  - “C” Shift

A local teenager is lucky to be alive following a high speed crash in the 9000 block of Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64) near Neyles Crossroads Thursday morning 05-March at 02:20. The Nissan passenger car left the roadway and struck a power pole breaking it into three pieces before colliding with a tree. The car received massive damage. The initial reports indicated the driver was trapped in the wreckage, however she was out of the vehicle when responders reached the scene. Click here for more information.

04/March/2020 – Director of the Year Award

Deputy Chief David Greene was awarded the SC Emergency Management Director of the Year award by the SC Emergency Management Association on the final day of their annual conference at Myrtle Beach Wednesday evening 04-March. Chief Greene was recognized for his accomplishments in reorganizing the County’s Emergency Management Division which was placed under Fire-Rescue in January 2018. Click here for more information.

04/March/2020 – MVC with entrapment and Air Evac – “B” Shift

Two men we injured in a head-on collision on Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) south of Phillips Road Wednesday morning 04-March at 06:09. The accident occurred when a south bound Nissan Murano crossed the center line and struck a north bound Dodge Pickup truck head-on. The collision caused heavy damage to both vehicles and blocked the highway. Both driver’s were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the pickup truck received minor injuries, was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center.
