Fire-Rescue units responded to a two vehicle MVC at the intersection of Green Pond Hwy (SC Hwy 303) and Ritter Road, Thursday afternoon 28-October at 16:36. A KIA Spectra and a full sized GMC Pickup truck collided in the intersection, trapping the driver of the Spectra. The female driver suffered non-life threatening minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to remove the driver's door from the Spectra. Click here for additional information.

A 31 yr old Summerville man was critically injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC, in the 26300 block of August Hwy (SC Hwy 61) in the Maple Cane community Sunday evening 24-October at 23:22. Initial callers to 9-1-1, reported the vehicle was on fire and the driver was trapped. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find a Chevrolet pickup truck with heavy damage overturned at the wood line. Bystanders had extinguished the fire in the truck, but the engine, which was thrown 20 feet from the vehicle was still burning. The driver was still trapped in the wreckage. At 16:04, Friday afternoon, Fire-Rescue received a report from the Lowcountry Regional Airport of a plane crash in the vicinity of Round O Road and Augusta Hwy., (SC Hwy 61). Engine 5, stationed about 1 mile from the location, arrived 3 minutes later and began searching for the aircraft in the thick wooded rural area. Five Sheriff's Deputy arrived a few minutes later and a nearby resident flagged them down near Lindsay Road, advising her husband was at the crash site in the woods and yelling for help. We would like to congratulate Engineer-EMT James Vanadoe and his wife Beth on the birth of a daughter, Hazel Lillian, who was born 13-October at 02:45. Hazel arrived a little early at 29 weeks. She weighed 3 pounds, 3 ounces and is 16 inches long. Both mother and daughter are doing well.
At 22:45 Wednesday evening 20-October a Summerville teenager failed to negotiate a curve in the 1300 block of Wichman Street and crashed into a house. The southbound Chevrolet Impala was traveling at a high rate of speed, entered the yard of one residence knocking down two brick pillars which caused the car to overturn. The upside down vehicle continued traveling south on its roof, through a fence and then collided with the house damaging the side porch. A residential dwelling was destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday, 19-October. At 00:56, a passing motorist called 9-1-1 to report flames coming out of all the windows of a home located at 9477 Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) in the Springtown Community. Engine 26 arrived to find the doublewide mobile home approximately 90% involved. Engine 26 used a deck gun to knock down the bulk of the flames, while other Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the remaining fire. It is with sadness that we report the passing of Retired IDO Fire Chief Thomas Williams who passed away this morning 18-October. He was 91 years old. Chief Williams served as Fire Chief of the former Intercommunity Development
An adult female received multiple injuries resulting from a 20 feet fall from a deer stand, Saturday afternoon 16-October at 17:17. The incident occurred about 1/2 mile into the woods off of the 200 block of Moselle Road in the Islandton Community. Medic 18 was able to access the patient from a small dirt road into the property. The patient was treated at the scene, then transported out of the woods to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter at the Islandton baseball field. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Click here for more info.
A tow-truck operator is lucky to be alive after his tow truck and a motorhome were struck by a tractor trailer on I-95 near the 45 mile marker southbound Friday evening 15-October at 23:35. The tow truck from Ridgeland had been called to remove a disabled motorhome from the breakdown lane on Interstate 95. The family of three, including an infant, had left the scene about 15 minutes prior to the accident. The tow truck operator was preparing to hook up to the motorhome when a southbound tractor trailer entered the breakdown lane, striking the motorhome and then the wrecker. Fire-Rescue responded to a suspicious fire at 2450 Robertson Blvd, the Classics Social Club, Tuesday morning 12-October. At 10:53 9-1-1 was advised of the fire in an apartment connected to the Club. Arriving units found smoke coming from the building but the fire had burned itself out. The fire damaged several rooms in the building, but once the accelerant used was consumed, the fire did not extend into the building. An adult male received life threatening injuries in a single vehicle accident in the 8000 block of Ritter Road Monday afternoon 11-October at 17:07. The westbound pickup truck dropped off of the shoulder and over-corrected causing the small truck to spin backwards and strike a tree. A trailer the truck was pulling broke at the tongue and lost the lawnmower it was hauling. The collision is believed to have caused the driver to be ejected from the truck He was found semi-conscious in the ditch. Click here for additional information.

A two vehicle, high speed MVC sent one person to a Trauma Center and a second man to Colleton Medical Center. At 05:42, Sunday morning 10-October, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to Interstate 95 near the 61 mile marker northbound, for a two vehicle accident. A northbound Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed rear ended a northbound tractor trailer. The small car received heavy damage, lost control and entered the wooded median. An adult male was shot in the ear during a possible alteration near the intersection of Rivers Street and Proctor Street Sunday morning 10-October. At 05:29, the man called 9-1-1 and reported that he had been shot in the head. City Law Enforcement Officers located the subject at the intersection. Fire-Rescue Medic 1 arrived minutes later to find the man walking around the scene, with a wound to the cartilage on the left ear. Colleton Fire-Rescue Divers responded to Dorchester County on a mutual request for the Highway Patrol for a vehicle submerged in water in the first block of Linger Longer Drive off of US Hwy 17-A, Saturday evening 09-October at 22:16. A small pickup truck had driven into a pond and become submerged. A bystander assisted the driver from the truck as it sank, but it was unknown if other occupants were in the truck and the driver was not in any condition to tell responders that information. An adult female was fatally shot in a shooting incident at 97 Ladson Street, the Rodeway Inn, Friday evening 08-October. At 22:23, 9-1-1 received a report of an unconscious female in a vehicle at the motel. Arriving Officers discovered the unconscious woman partially in a car at the end of the building. She had no pulse and a GSW. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and verified the woman was deceased. The Coroner also responded to the scene. A two vehicle collision in the 8700 block of Charleston Hwy., (SC Highway 64) in the Neyles Community has left two people and a canine dead and blocked the busy two lane highway for 3 hours. The accident was reported at 08:49 Wednesday morning 06-October, when witnesses advised an eastbound 2010 Lexus crossed into the westbound lane and struck a GMC Servpro box style truck head-on. The impact caused substantial damage to the truck. The Lexus drove under the box knocking the rear axle off and shearing off the driver's side and roof of the Lexus. Click here for more information.
Captain John Graham of Station # 7 has worn many hats during his lifetime. The 83 year old full time farmer has put in 49 years as a firefighter in Colleton County and was instrumental in bringing fire protection to the Smoaks Community and the north northwestern unincorporated areas in the early seventies. He has remained active in that role since and seldom misses a response. Many know of his other passion of a DNR Deputy Law Enforcement Officer. Graham recently retired from that position after 48 years. Local DNR Officers gave Graham a retirement luncheon at Donnelly Wildlife Preserve which was also attended by Sheriff Hill and his good friend Lt. David Sauls, also of Station 7.
