During the last week of September and the early October, the EOC was staffed to manage the effects of Hurricane Ian. After battering Florida as a high Category four storm, Ian reemerged in the Atlantic and formed as a Category 1 storm. Impacts were forecast to strike anywhere along the SC Coast. The storm made landfall near Georgetown, well north of Colleton County. We saw very little damage from the storm. The EOC received 72 reports of damage from Hurricane Ian. One of those damage reports involved a residence, but fortunately, there were no injuries. Click here for additional information.
Fire-Rescue and Walterboro Police responded to North Lemacks St and Wiley St for a shooting incident Thursday evening 22-September at 20:21. WPD arrived and found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the foot. He was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center. An Edisto River house was destroyed in an afternoon fire in the 3700 block of Cannon Road Tuesday 20-Sept at 16:47. A neighbor called 9-1-1 and reported seeing the building on fire through the woods. The home was located approximately 150 feet off of the roadway behind heavy brush and woods. Engine 19 arrived to find the single story wood frame dwelling fully involved. The roof and walls on one side of the building had already collapsed. Firefighters had problems accessing the property, but located a small path through the woods. Four people were transported to Colleton Medical Center following a collision between a SUV and a semi-truck on I-95 at the 40 mile marker southbound near the Combahee River Tuesday afternoon 20-September at 15:39. According to a witness, the Chevrolet Suburban collided with the rear of the Semi, striking the rear tires. The Suburban was propelled into the back of the cab, then rolled off of the truck, overturning on the bridge. The four occupants in the SUV were able to crawl out of the sun roof opening and received non-life threatening injuries. Click here for additional information.
At 14:13 on Tuesday 20-Sept., a resident on Joyland Ln notified 9-1-1 of a house on fire on Alton Way. The caller advised they could see the roof on fire through the woods. Engine 9 arrived a few minutes later to find a double wide mobile home well involved. The roof had already collapsed and fire was coming from all of the windows. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines and knocked the fire down with the deck gun. After approximately 20 minutes, crews were able to enter the dwelling and extinguish the remaining fire. Click here for additional information.

At 00:08, Station # 19 was dispatched to a reported woods fire near the intersection of Burlington Road and Nunuville Road. On arrival, Engine 19 found a one story residential dwelling and a detached two car garage fully involved in the 1000 block of Nunuville Road. They requested a structural response for additional units. Engine 19 used the deck gun to knock down some of the flames. The roof on both buildings had already collapsed prior to Fire-Rescue Units arriving, indicating the fire had been burning for a while before anyone discovered the fire. An adult male was critically injured in a shooting incident at 1941 Sidneys Road at the Northside Pak-a-sak Convenience Store Friday afternoon 16-September at 16:54. The victim was struck several times. Following the shooting, the victim's vehicle struck the fuel pumps. Sheriff's Deputies arrived quickly and secured the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, then transported him emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 with additional personnel on board to assist with his care. Fire-Rescue hosted the first ever Mile In Our Boots (MIOB) Academy at Station 19 from September 16th through the 18th. Sponsored by the South Carolina Firefighters Association Firefighter Assistance Support Team (FAST). A multitude of Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement instructors provided behavioral health clinicians with information and training exercises. This helps the clinicians better understand the job of a Firefighter, EMT/Paramedic, and Law Enforcement officer, which helps them to better help responders with their behavioral health. An adult male suffered fatal injuries in a shooting incident in the 100 block of Madison Street Wednesday evening 14-September. 9-1-1 received reports of a person being shot at 21:58. Sheriff's Deputies arrived quickly and cleared the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man unconscious with no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. A singlewide mobile home was destroyed in a midday fire on Smoak Rd at the intersection of Our Dream Lane. 9-1-1 was notified by a passerby at 11:51 that the building was well involved. Engine 19 arrived to find the fully involved structure. Engine 19 used the deck gun to knock down the heavy fire, while Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building. Crews had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 15 minutes, but were on the scene for two hours performing overhaul. Fire-Rescue responded to a well involved residential fire at 01:31 Sunday morning 11-Sept. A neighbor called 9-1-1 reporting the home was on fire. Engine 9 arrived minutes later to find the doublewide mobile home already destroyed. The home had been burning undetected for some time. Only some stubs remained standing. All of the walls and the roof had already collapsed. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to the building and worked on overhauling the remains of the building for about two hours. An adult male died from injuries he received after he was struck by a car on Industrial Road at the intersection of Lakeshore Dr Saturday morning 10-Sept at 01:31. The victim was wearing all black clothing and appeared to have been struck in the travel lane. It had been raining earlier. The suspect vehicle, possibly a Honda passenger car, fled the scene. Sheriff's Deputies found the man unconscious, lying in the roadway, after a neighbor called 9-1-1. An adult male died from a gunshot wound during a reported home invasion in the 26200 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) east of Cottageville Tuesday evening 06-September. Sheriff's Deputies and Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to the location at 22:35, Sheriff's Deputies arrived quickly and cleared the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics found the victim unconscious with no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. Three people were injured, one severely, in a two vehicle head-on crash in the 7900 block of Charleston Hwy. (SC Hwy 64) Tuesday afternoon 06-September at 17:16. The two vehicles struck a glancing head-on blow causing a SUV pulling a boat to overturn in the ditch. The unrestrained driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and denied ambulance transport to the ED. The male and female restrained occupants of a Ford Fusion suffered injuries and were transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue Medic 19. Click here for additional information.
An adult female suffered a head injury when the ATV side by side she was in overturned on a dirt road off of Sunrise Road (SC Hwy 217) Monday morning 05-Sept. At 00:33, Fire-Rescue was sent to a hunting road just south of August Hwy. (SC Hwy 61). The caller reported two people were injured after the ATV overturned. They reported the female had a significant head injury. Two Fire-Rescue Ambulances were assigned to the incident and a medical helicopter was also requested. Click here for additional information.
An adult male was transported to a Trauma Center following a single car crash in front of 6722 Sidneys Rd, Saturday afternoon 03-September at 18:31. The southbound pickup truck entered the southbound ditch just after passing Round O Road (Sidneys Crossroads). The vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, over-corrected, crossed to the northbound side of the road where it flipped over several times and struck a tree. The driver received multiple traumatic injuries. Bystanders and several motorists stopped to assist the man until Fire-Rescue units arrived. Click here for additional information.
