31/October/2023 - Truck or Treat Fire-Rescue and many other agencies participated in a Truck or Treat Event sponsored by the Sheriff's Office. The event was held at the County Law Enforcement Center on Mable T. Willis Blvd 31-October beginning at 17:00. Hundreds of people attended in costume and gathered mounts of candy, treats and prizes. The Sheriff's Office conducted a coloring contest on site. Tango, Dispatch's dog, dressed up as a firefighter and enjoyed the crowd. It was a fun event for all in attendance. 30/October/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift An alert young man helped save a Sidneys Road home Monday afternoon 30-October. At 18:10 Chase Spooner and his mother were traveling on Sidneys Road enroute to the Veterans Victory House, when Chase told his mom he saw a house on fire. She turned their SUV around and found flames coming from a window of a residential dwelling in the 1400 block. She called 9-1-1 and went to check on the homeowner. 27/October/2023 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "C" Shift Fire-Rescue units responded to a report of an unconscious person who was not breathing at an address on Koth Street Friday evening 27-October at 19:49. Medic 19 and Battalion 1 arrived in the area and were directed to a nearby residence on Able Street. They found a deceased adult male with a gunshot wound. The man had no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was requested and responded to the scene. Click here for additional information. |

26/October/2023 - Condolences We offer condolences to Firefighter-EMT Ashley Ackerman and his family. Ashley's grandfather, William "Buddy" Ackerman, passed away Thursday evening at Veterans Victory House. He was 89. Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon 26-October at 15:00 at the Ackerman Cemetery on Red Oak Road north of Cottageville. 23/October/2023 - Vehicle Fires - "A" Shift Three passenger cars and a portion of a semi-trailer were heavily damaged in an early morning fire on Interstate 95 near the 42 mile marker southbound. Fire-Rescue was sent the location for the report of a vehicle on fire. Engine 13 arrived to find a car hauler in the breakdown lane. The rear of the trailer and three vehicles on the trailer were well involved. Crews requested an additional station and Tender to assist with extinguishing the fire. Station 1 was assigned to the incident. Traffic on southbound I-95 was down to one lane for several hours. Click here for additional information. |

21/October/2023 - Structure Fire - ""C" Shift Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire in a 20x20 workshop in the 900 block of Symly Road north of Ruffin Saturday evening 21-October at 18:29. The occupants advised they were cooking when grease started the fire. They notified 9-1-1 and extinguished most of the fire with a garden hose. Engine 18 arrived to find light smoke coming from the small building and deployed one handline. Click here for additional information. |

21/October/2023 - Four Wheeler MVC - "C" Shift Two teenagers were injured in a four wheeler accident in the 500 block of Adams Road north of Cottageville Saturday afternoon 21-October at 17:59. A 16 year old was driving with a 14 year old on the back, when the large four wheeler left the roadway and struck a driveway culvert causing the vehicle to overturn. Both occupants were ejected and the four wheeler rolled over on top of them. Click here for additional information. |

16/October/2023 - Fall with Air Evac - "A" Shift An adult male was severely injured in a fall Monday evening 16-October. At 19:14, Colleton County 9-1-1 was notified of the incident which occurred in Bamberg County. The worker was on a crew assembling a metal carport when he fell and sliced his arm on the metal sheeting. The man received a deep laceration with severe bleeding. His co-workers attempted to control the bleeding, placed him in a truck and drove into Colleton County seeking help. Click here for additional information. |

15/October/2023 - Stabbing Incident - "C" Shift An adult male received a non-life threatening injury during a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Jonesville Ave. Sunday morning 15-October at 10:59. The man was stabbed in the leg. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, which included bleeding control. He was then transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 13 to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. 15/October/2023 - Kitchen Fire - "B" Shift A fire in the oven caused minor damage to the kitchen and filled the home with smoke at a residence in the 200 block of Bay Blossom Rd Sunday morning 15-October at 07:43. Firefighters removed the oven from the cabinets, secured the power and used PPV fans to remove smoke from inside the home. Two people were in the residence when the fire occurred and were able to safely exit the house. Damage to the dwelling was minor. Fire units were on the scene for 45 minutes. 08/October/2023 - Agriculture Rescue Class Fire-Rescue hosted an agriculture/farm rescue class at Forks Road Farms in Islandton Saturday & Sunday 07 & 08 October. The comprehensive course taught responders about farm equipment, farm animals, farm implement operations and rescue techniques related to farming equipment. Crews learned about grain bin extrication and the many challenges associated with farming equipment. The owners of the farm provided space for the classroom sessions, as well as the use of their equipment. They also provided lunch for the students on both days. 07/October/2023 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift An adult male received a serious gunshot wound to the arm in an incident that occurred in the Johnsville Community near Angora Ct. Saturday evening 07-October at 22:01. Bystanders placed the man in a car and drove him to the Circle C Truck Stop on Augusta Hwy near I-95. Fire-Rescue Medic 26 and the Sheriff's Office met the patient at the truck stop. The man's injuries were treated at the scene. He was then transported emergent in Medic 26 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. 06/October/2023 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift At 21:16 an 18 year old male received a life threatening gunshot wound in an incident near Ramsey Hill Road Friday evening 06-October. Sheriff's Deputies were sent to a residence near the end of Ramsey Hill Road after several hang up calls were made to 9-1-1. Upon arrival they found an 18 yr. old male lying in the yard with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. They immediately requested Firefighter-Paramedics to respond. Fire-Rescue crews found the male in critical condition and began treating his injuries, which included medications and the administration of whole blood. Click here for additional information. |

06/October/2023 - SCFA/SCFFA Company Fire Officer Graduation Captain Mike Duffy completed the SC Firefighter's Asso Company Officer Program held at the SC Fire Academy the first week of October. Duffy was among 25 applicants accepted to the course which ran all week. The intense training educated students in decision making, time-management and leadership skills, which included scenario based physical exercises and scene management designed to challenge the fire department leaders. The course was attended by fire officers from throughout the state. |

06/October/2023 - Medical Air Evac - "C" Shift CARE Flight was called to transport a critical child from a residence in the 300 block of Crosby Corner Road Friday morning 06-October at 09:41. The child was suffering from severe respiratory failure. Firefighter-Paramedics and a home health care nurse treated the child in the residence and called for a medical helicopter. CARE Flight landed in a field in front of the home. The patient required advanced airway management prior to being flown to the Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital at MUSC in Charleston. 04/October/2023 - Machinery Entrapment - "A" Shift At 16:21 a tree company employee became trapped under an approx. 16,000 pound track lift behind 237 Carolina Circle. The large piece of equipment was operating in a wooded area down a deep embankment when it tipped over on uneven ground. The machine fell on an employee trapping him under the machinery. The man received multiple injuries, but was remarkably in stable condition. Firefighter-Paramedics had to carry rescue equipment and cribbing through a yard, down the embankment and into the wooded area. Click here for more information. |

04/October/2023 - Annual Fire Prevention Education Fire prevention education began this week with activities at Black Street Childhood Center and Bells Elementary School. The preschoolers learned many safety skills including how to Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothes were to catch on fire and about the importance of smoke detectors in the home. They interacted with Patches, Fire-Rescue’s Robotic Dalmatian and they toured a Fire Engine and Ambulance. Fire Prevention activities are taught in all of the schools during the month of October to coincide with National Fire Prevention Week. Click here for more information. |

03/October/2023 - National Night Out Fire-Rescue joined Law Enforcement, other First Responders and Community Organizations for the National Night Out Campaign on the grounds behind First Baptist Church at the corner of South Lucas Street and Carn Street in Walterboro Tuesday evening 03-October. The event ran from 18:00 to 20:00. Organizations set up booths and handed out information or discussed activities with citizens. Click here for additional information. |

03/October/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A Rum Gully family of three were displaced after a fire damaged their residence at 4004 Adnah Church Road Tuesday afternoon 03-October. At 15:41, 9-1-1 was notified of a fire inside the home. The occupants and their pets were able to safely exit the burning home. Engine 15 arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke coming from the singlewide mobile home. Firefighters deployed two handlines and made entry through the front door. They found heavy fire conditions in a bedroom and quickly brought the fire under control. Click here for additional information. |

02/October/2023 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift Several buildings and vehicles were damaged or destroyed following a fire at 12131 Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) in Islandton Monday afternoon 02-October. At 15:12 Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at the location. Just prior to units arriving, 9-1-1 received several reports of a building on fire. The incident was upgraded to a structure fire. Engine 15 arrived to find one garage fully involved, a second garage approximately 50% involved, a third large storage building on the adjacent property beginning to burn, a small storage building with fire on one side, two vehicles involved and a residential dwelling exposure.
