30/December/2024 - Condolences

The Fire-Rescue Department extends condolences to Firefighter/EMT Rusty Sullivan his wife, Logistics Administrative Assistant Tiffany and the entire Sullivan family on the loss of their father, Mr. Roger Deal Sullivan, Sr. Mr. Sullivan passed away at the age of 84, on 30-December. Funeral services with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will be conducted at 2 PM on Monday, 4-January at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road Summerville, SC. Please remember the Sullivan family in your prayers.

26/December/2024 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift

An adult male received a life threatening gunshot wound during an incident in the 200 block of Rivers Street in the City of Walterboro Thursday afternoon 26-December at 13:14. Law Enforcement officers found the man lying near the road bleeding profusely. Police officers began treating his injuries and controlled his external bleeding prior to the arrival of Firefighter-Paramedics. Medics 19 and 26 responded, then continued his care at the scene. 25/December/2024 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac (Mutual Aid) - "B" Shift

Colleton County responded as mutual aid to Hampton County for a two vehicle MVC with entrapment at the intersection of Yemassee Hwy (SC Hwy 68) and Lane Street in the Town of Yemassee Christmas Day 25-December at 15:33. Hampton County Fire-Rescue performed the extrication of the trapped victim and were removing the patient when Colleton Medic 1 arrived. The CARE Flight helicopter had already been requested and landed approximately 1 mile from the scene on Yemassee Hwy. Click here for additional information.
16/December/2024 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac - "A" Shift

An adult male was critically injured in a single car MVC in the 300 block of Ivanhoe Road Monday afternoon 16-December. At 13:08, two men observed the small SUV slowly drive over the embankment into Ireland Creek. The car overturned in the shallow water, trapping the driver. He was pinned in the car in such a way that his head was under the water. Caden Moyer and Asher Caponetti, who watched the events unfold from the Ollie's parking lot, jumped into action. 15/December/2024 - Fatal MVC - "C" Shift

An adult male has died from injuries he received in a motor vehicle collision Sunday evening 15-December. At 19:11, the accident was reported to 9-1-1. The man, who was wearing dark clothing, was riding a Gotrax electric scooter, similar to a skateboard with handles, on Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64). Near the intersection of Charleston Hwy and Poplar Street, the man was struck by an eastbound vehicle. He impacted the hood and windshield and then fell to the shoulder of the road. 15/December/2024 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

An alert mail carrier observed smoke coming from a home in the 200 block of Gadsden Loop Sunday morning 15-December. At 11:40, a US Postal employee delivering packages saw smoke coming from the roof and windows of a home. She immediately notified the Sheriff's Office. Fire-Rescue Engine 1 arrived minutes later to find smoke coming from the roof and eaves of the single story brick veneer structure. Firefighter-Paramedics forced open the front door and entered with one handline. They found the kitchen on fire with extension into the attic. Click here for additional information.
14/December/2024 - Annual Christmas Dinner and Award Ceremony

14/December/2024 - Shop With Santa's Heroes

Local First Responders gathered Saturday morning 14-December to escort 14 community children on a Christmas excursion. The annual "Shop with Santa's Heroes" event is sponsored by the Walterboro Police Dept. Local Responders from Fire-Rescue, Walterboro Police Dept., Colleton County Sheriff's Office, SLED, SC DNR, Walterboro Fire Dept. and Colleton County DSS assembled at the Wildlife Center parking lot at 06:30.  The children had been selected by DSS to participate. 11/December/2024 - Heating Unit Fire at Hendersonville Elementary School - "C" Shift

Fire-Rescue and Sheriff's Office units responded to the Hendersonville Elementary School Wednesday afternoon 11-December at 13:16. Colleton County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers (SRO's) detected the presence of smoke in one of the break rooms on the 100 hallway. They immediately notified Fire-Rescue, activated the fire alarm, and started the evacuation process. In addition, the SRO's provided real-time updates that aided Fire-Rescue. Engine 1 arrived to find no visible signs from the exterior of the building. Click here for more information.
08/December/2024 - Christmas Parade - "C" Shift

Fire-Rescue participated in the Walterboro Christmas Parade Sunday evening 08-December. Multiple units lined up on Hampton Street to join the many participants. The event was well attended by the public and many positive comments were received about the decorated apparatus. The community helped bring in the joyous time of year as we celebrate the birth of Christ. Click here for additional information.
07/December/2024 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

A residential structure was damaged in an evening fire Saturday night 07-Dec. At 19:03, the neighbors called 9-1-1 reporting smoke coming from the home. The quick thinking neighbor stretched a garden hose over the fence and began spraying water in a window, reducing the flames. Engine 1 arrived minutes later to find smoke coming from the singlewide mobile home. The fire was contained to a bedroom on the south side of the building. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline and entered the structure through the front door. Click here for additional information. 
05/December/2024 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

At 11:03 on Thursday 05-December, a passerby notified 9-1-1 of a residence on fire at the corner of Camp Buddy Road and Garner Corners Ct. The caller noted there were flames coming from the windows and roof. Engine 9 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home approximately 60% involved. The roof over half of the home and a portion of the front wall had already burned away. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to the building. A vehicle was in front of the home and neighbors could not verify that no one was there. Click here for additional information.
