29/September/2024 - Hurricane Helene 

As Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Florida Panhandle Thursday night, the large Category 4 storm caused widespread damage in Florida and Georgia. The path of the storm took an unexpected shift bringing the devastating winds and heavy rains to the South Carolina border. Locally we saw many trees down and damage to the power grid, which knocked out power to over 85% of residences in Colleton County. There was one report of a tree on a home and several vehicles there were crushed by falling trees. Fortunately, no injuries from the storm were reported locally. 28/September/2024 - Fatal MVC - "A" Shift

An 8 yr old girl tragically died from injuries received in a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) and Pleasant Grove Road Saturday evening 28-September at 23:01. Five other people were also injured, two seriously. A southbound Chevrolet Suburban and a westbound Chevrolet Pickup Truck collided at the intersection. Both vehicles received heavy damage and overturned. All occupants of the Suburban were restrained, but one side of the vehicle was torn off resulting in multiple injuries to the child. 23/September/2024 - MVC with Overturned Vehicle - "A" Shift

An adult female was transported to a Trauma Center following a single vehicle MVC in the 2600 block of Bells Hwy. Monday morning 23-September at 04:13. The vehicle left the roadway and drove behind the guardrail. It jumped the Jones Swamp Creek and impacted the opposite bank, overturning between several trees. The driver was able to exit the vehicle on her own, but suffered multiple injuries. Click here for additional information.
19/September/2024 - First Responder Breakfast - "C" Shift

The Walterboro Church of God prepared breakfast for County First Responders Saturday morning 19-Sept at the church on Jefferies Hwy. Church members prepared and served the meals to personnel who were able to attend and packaged up to-go meals for Responders in the outlying stations who could not come into town. It was a great opportunity for fellowship with community members. Fire-Rescue is grateful for the hospitality. Click here for additional information.

18/September/2024 - Multi-vehicle MVC - "C" Shift

A five vehicle MVC, involving three passenger cars and two semi-trucks, sent four people to the Trauma Center Wednesday afternoon 18-September at 15:20. The accident occurred on Interstate 95 near the 56 mile marker southbound during a thunderstorm. Both lanes were blocked by the vehicles and debris in the roadway. Three Fire-Rescue ambulances responded to the accident due to the four severely injured people. Two of the passenger cars received heavy damage after colliding with the semi-trucks. A Nissan Rogue was hit by several vehicles and ended up against the cable barrier in the median. Click here for more information.
17/September/2024 - Birth Announcement

We congratulate FF/EMT Chris Sarine on the birth of his granddaughter, Reyna Sarine. Reyna made her grand entrance at 0140 on 17-September, weighing in at 7 pounds 15 ounces and 20.5 inches long.  
15/September/2024 - Shooting -  "C" Shift

A nine year old girl was shot at a residence in the 800 block of Buffalo Lane Sunday afternoon. Sheriff's Deputies and Fire-Rescue units were dispatched at 17.51. The child's mother advised responders that the child was inside the home when the house was struck by bullets during a possible domestic dispute.  The child was critically injured, receiving wounds to the arm and upper torso. She attempted to transport the child to the hospital by car when she met Sheriff's Deputies about a block away on Sunshine Lane. The Deputies provided care to the child and controlled her profuse external bleeding prior to the arrival of Firefighter-Paramedics. Click here for additional information.
13/September/2024 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

A singlewide mobile home received moderate damage after a fire under the residence spread up an outside wall. The homeowner returned home to find smoke inside the building. Firefighter-Paramedics found the exterior of the home damaged. Upon investigation they also found damage under the mobile home. The fire appeared to have been electrical in nature. Crews deployed one hand line to the building. They quickly had the incident under control and cancelled additional responding units. No injuries were reported. 13/September/2024 - MVC with Air Evac - "A" Shift

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a single vehicle accident in the 1800 block of Johnsville Road Friday evening 13-September at 21:45. The vehicle was traveling south when it lost control in a curve. It crossed over to the north bound ditch, then back to the southbound ditch where it began to flip over. The car came to rest in a deep ditch, standing on end. Bystanders removed the patients from the car and transported one to the ED at Colleton Medical Center in a private car. 10/September/2024 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift

An adult male performing yard work was shot in the back Tuesday evening in the 400 block of Cleveland Street. At 20:10, 9-1-1 received a report the man was shot and lying in a ditch. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested that CARE Flight be placed on standby. Fire-Rescue Medic 1 transported the man emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. He was transferred to the Flightcrew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Click here for additional information.
01/September/2024 - Condolences

The Fire-Rescue Department offers condolences to Firefighter/AEMT Sabrina Fetty and her family, on the passing of her Grandfather. FF/AEMT Fetty's grandfather passed away in Florida and no arrangements have been announced. Please keep the family in your prayers.

01/September/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift

A single vehicle MVC sent one woman to a Trauma Center early Sunday morning 01-September at 03:00. The accident occurred in the 6200 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) just east of Round O Crossroads. According to witnesses, the southbound Honda Accord was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it left the roadway and struck several trees. The car received heavy damage and rolled over onto the passenger's side. The female driver, the only occupant, was trapped inside the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the car and used a variety of tools to extricate the woman. Click here for additional information.
31/September/2024 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "C" Shift

Two people were shot, one fatally at a residence in the 100 block of Singleton Street , Saturday afternoon 31-August at 17:19. An adult female received a life threatening wound to the lower torso and an adult male suffered multiple wounds. Walterboro Police Officers and Sheriff's Deputies arrived quickly and found both patients in the front yard. The officers began caring for the injured parties which included bleeding control and CPR for the male, who was found unconscious and not breathing. Click here for additional information.
