Two adult males were transported to a Trauma Center after the ATVs they were riding collided head-on in the 2300 block of Johnsville Road Saturday afternoon 17-May at 16:17. Engine 7 and Medic 7 treated the men at the scene and requested a medical helicopter and a second Fire-Rescue ambulance. Initial reports to 9-1-1 advised one man was unconscious. An adult was fatally injured in a shooting incident in the 200 block of King Street Saturday afternoon 17-May at 15:49. Sheriff's Deputies secured the scene so Firefighter-Paramedics could treat the injured man. He was found in the backyard of the residence with no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was contacted and responded to the scene. Two other adults with different injuries were also treated at the scene but did not require ambulance transportation to the hospital. The American Legion recognized two Colleton County Firefighters for their heroic actions during a rescue in June 2024 at Edisto Beach. Firefighter-Paramedic Robert Jennings and Firefighter-EMT Tyler Allen responded to a person in distress in the Atlantic Ocean while staffing Medic 20. On arrival, the two discovered a woman caught in a rip current. They donned life vests and swam out to the woman, then pulled her to shore. The woman went into cardiac arrest shortly thereafter and the two along with Edisto Beach firefighters and police officers successfully resuscitated the woman. Click here for additional information.
An adult female suffered critical injuries after a large tree limb fell and struck her in the head at a residence in the 600 block of Carn Street at 16:56 Wednesday afternoon 14-May. The woman was in a yard with a six year old child, when the tree limb fell approximately 45 feet and struck her on the head. The woman suffered a head injury and collapsed in the yard. The child was not injured. A Fire-Rescue ambulance was only blocks away when the incident was dispatched. Click here for additional information.

A Springtown family was displaced following a fire that destroyed their home Friday evening 09-May at 22:23. The fire occurred at 8857 Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61). A family member advised she was awakened by smoke and found the home on fire. She was able to alert the two other family members and all three escaped the burning structure. Engine 7 arrived to find the single story residential dwelling approximately 70% involved. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and one 2-1/2 handline to control the fire. An adult female was critically injured when her motorcycle left the roadway and collided with a mailbox post Monday afternoon 05-May at 16:41. The woman received multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated her at the scene including bleeding control. A medical helicopter was requested and C.A.R.E. Flight landed at the Cottageville Elementary School. An adult male was seriously injured after two pickup trucks collided at the intersection of Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) and Cypress Pond Road Friday evening 02-May at 20:38. The man was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, but his condition quickly deteriorated. He was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the CARE Flight base. He was transferred to the Flight crew and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. The driver of the second truck was not injured. Click here for additional information.
Fire-Rescue's Emergency Management Division and the Colleton County Chamber of Commerce conducted a Business Preparedness Workshop at the Colleton County Emergency Operations Center on Simmons Street Thursday morning 01-May. The event was conducted to assist local businesses prepare for a disaster and the recovery phase of a disaster such as a hurricane or cyber attack. The EOC and live stream had many participants.
