30-September-2020 – SUV vs Motorcycle MVC – “C” Shift

An adult male was injured when the motorcycle he was operating was struck by a SUV on Bells Hwy at Hilton Hall Road Wednesday afternoon 30-September at 15:08. The man was wearing a helmet but suffered a suspected head injury in the collision. The motorcycle received heavy damage in the accident. The driver of the SUV was not injured. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, then transported him emergent to the Trauma Center at MUSC in North Charleston. Click here for more information.

28/September/2020 – Fatal MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

An adult female was killed and an adult male was injured following a two car head-on collision on ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy 17) just south of Wood Road in the Green Pond Community Monday morning 28-September at 04:41. The vehicles collided in the southbound lanes spreading debris across the five lanes and blocking the roadway. Engine 6 and Medic 6 stationed one block away arrived within minutes to find a Nissan Xterra over-turned in the middle of ACE Basin Parkway. Click here for more information.

23/September/2020 – Assault with Air Evac – “B” Shift

An adult male was brought to Fire Station # 18 at Bells Crossroads via POV following an assault Wednesday afternoon 23-September at 17:45. The man was severely beaten and received facial trauma and a head injury. Shortly after arrival he became unconscious. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested the CARE Flight medical helicopter. Medic 7 was also in the area and responded to assist Medic 18. Both crews treated the man, then rapidly transported him to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. Click here for more information.

20/September/2020 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Fire-Rescue units responded a structure fire in a vacant mobile home at 316 Country Ln Sunday afternoon 20-September at 17:47. Engine 26 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home attached to a one story structure well involved. Crews deployed multiple handlines to combat the fire. They were able to stop the spread of the fire in the south end of the structure and saved the adjacent attached structure. The north end of the building was a total loss and the roof collapsed. Units were on the scene for two and half hours. No one was currently living in the building and no injuries were reported. Click here for more information.

20/September/2020 – Fatal MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac – “B” Shift 

Seven people were transported to area hospitals following a two vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 near the 53 mile marker Sunday afternoon 20-September. At 16:47, 9-1-1 began receiving multiple reports of the collision just south of Exit 53. Callers reported a north bound Dodge Avenger crossed through the median and struck a southbound Toyota Tacoma head-on causing heavy damage to both vehicles. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later to find the southbound lanes of I-95 blocked by the Tacoma, debris and bystander’s vehicles. 19-September-2020 – MVC with Entrapment  - “A” Shift

An adult male was transported to Colleton Medical Center with multiple traumatic injuries following a two car MVC in the 400 block of Ivenia Brown Dr in Green Pond Saturday night at 23:30. A Dodge Journey was traveling east bound on Ivenia Brown Dr when a Ford Ranger pickup truck backed out of a driveway into its path resulting in heavy damage to both vehicles. The Dodge left the roadway and flipped over at least once. The driver of the Ford was trapped in his vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics stationed at Station # 6 in Green Pond arrived minutes later and requested a Rescue Unit. Click here for more information.

11/September/2020 – MVC with Entrapment and Fire – “B” Shift

A three vehicle MVC on Green Pond Hwy (SC Hwy 303) at Possum Corner Rd sent four people to the hospital Friday evening 11-September. At 21:55, 9-1-1 received several reports of a head-on collision at the intersection. Callers reported one person was trapped in a pickup truck and a passenger car was on fire. Based on the information provided by callers, three additional Fire-Rescue ambulances were assigned to the incident. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find a Ford F-150 with heavy damage blocking the southbound lane and a Pontiac Torrent off of the southbound shoulder approximately ½ involved in fire. 11/September/2020 – MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift

An adult female was injured in a motorcycle accident at the intersection of ACE Basin Pkwy (US Hwy 17) and Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64) Friday afternoon 11-September at 18:00. She and another cyclist were southbound on ACE Basin Parkway when the patient laid her bike down in the roadway. She was wearing a helmet, but appeared to have suffered a head injury and was unconscious following the accident. Firefighter-Paramedics treated her at he scene and transported her to the nearby field at the Jacksboro Baptist Church to meet with the CARE Flight medical helicopter. 11/September/2020 – Puppy Rescue – “B” Shift

Engine 6 and Medic 6 assisted Animal Control Officers with the rescue of puppy from a driveway culvert Friday afternoon 11-September at 17:39. Animal Control units were called to the scene earlier by a nearby resident to assist a mother dog and her puppies who were inside the driveway culvert. Officers were able to remove the mother and all the puppies except one. The stranded puppy was about 20 feet inside the pipe, which was about half full of dirt. The days old canine was out of reach. Crews put their heads together to come up with a solution. They obtained a long piece of pvc pipe from an old green house located nearby and the resident provided a small sauce pan. 09/September/2020 – Over-turned Tractor with Entrapment – “C” Shift

A 94 yr. old Smoaks man was trapped under his tractor after the piece of equipment rolled down an embankment Wednesday afternoon 09-September. At 15:22, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the 100 block of Lodge Hwy. (SC Hwy 217) in the Town of Smoaks. The gentleman was working alone, mowing grass on a dike surrounding a large pond when the tractor apparently got too close to the edge and overturned. It landed at the water’s edge pinning the man’s leg under the tractor and the side cutter. Fortunately he had a cell phone with him and was able to call for assistance. 07/Sept/2020 – MVC with Ejection – “A” Shift

A 26 yr. old Ruffin man was critically injured in a single car MVC in the 6900 block of Ruffin Road Monday evening 07-Sept. At 21:15, 9-1-1 received a report of an over-turned car in the woods at this location. Medic 18, stationed at Bells Crossroads arrived about 8 minutes later and found the Cadillac on it’s roof at the wood line. The occupant was found semi-conscious in the ditch approximately 20 feet from the car. Click here for more information.

07/September/2020 – Fatal Structure Fire – “C” and “A” Shift

Two adult females and two canines died in a residential structure fire Monday morning 07-September in the 200 block of Edgewood Street east of Walterboro. Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the location at 07:58 on the report of smoke coming from the residence. Engine 19 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions in the older singlewide mobile home. Neighbors advised arriving units that two occupants should be in the home. Fighters forced entry through a front door and quickly located one woman near the door. She was pulled from the structure then moved to Fire-Rescue Medic 19. Click here for more information.

06/September/2020 – Shooting Incident with Air Evacuation – “C” Shift

Two people received gunshot wounds in a shooting incident at Wiggins Mobile Home Park located at 117 Taylor Street just east of Walterboro Sunday afternoon 06-September at 15:27. An adult female was transported to Colleton Medical Center in a private car with reported multiple gunshot wounds. An adult male was found lying in the roadway with critical injuries to his arm and chest. He was quickly treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. 05-September-2020 – Fatal Motorcycle MVC

A 23 year old Colleton County man died from injuries received in a dirt bike accident Saturday evening 05-September in the 1400 block of Risher Mountain Road. The man had been traveling northbound on Risher Mountain Rd on the Honda dirt bike when he failed to negotiate a curve on the dark secondary road, entered the ditch and struck a driveway culvert. At 22:31, 9-1-1 received several reports of the MVC advising the man was not breathing. Click here for more information.

05-September-2020 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Firefighter-Paramedics saved a home at 2185 Rhode Dr Saturday afternoon 05-September. At 12:45 a caller notified 9-1-1 of a fire near the dryer inside a residence at this location. Engine 9 arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke coming from the two story dwelling with flames exiting the home through a window on the west side of the structure. Crews made entry through the front door and found heavy fire conditions in the area of the kitchen, dining and living rooms. Click here for more information.

We wish to congratulate Firefighter II – Paramedic Karl Knipp of the Station 9/19 rotation on obtaining Flight-Paramedic certification. This is a difficult course and we are proud of his accomplishment.

02/September/2020 – Motorcycle MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift

A 43 year old Walterboro man suffered multiple injuries after his motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of Sniders Hwy and Beach Road Wednesday evening 03-Sept at 21:49. The man was not wearing a helmet and also received a head injury. He was found on the roadway. The motorcycle received heavy damage. No one was injured in the car which drove several blocks south on Sniders Hwy. before stopping. The occupant in the car advised the driver fled the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the motorcycle driver at the scene and placed the CARE Flight helicopter on standby. Click here for more information.

02/September/2020 – Fatal Excavator Accident – ”B” Shift

A 47 year old Cottageville man died after a large tree fell on the mini-excavator he was operating in the 2500 block of Bama Rd east of Cottageville Wednesday afternoon 02-September. The man was found at approximately 16:17 and 9-1-1 was notified. Engine 9 and Medic 9 arrived to find the excavator pinned under the tree and the cab was crushed. The operator was trapped inside. The tree came to rest on top of the excavator and a nearby shed. It appeared the operator was attempting to remove the tree. Click here for more information.

02/September/2020 – HazMat Natural Gas Leak – “B” Shift

A utility contractor dug into a residential natural gas line in the 400 block of Dandridge Road Wednesday afternoon 02-September at 16:13. Fire-Rescue units responded, then blocked off a section of Dandridge Rd. Crews evacuated the homes in the immediate vicinity of the leak until Dominion Energy personnel arrived to secure the gas line. No one was injured. Firefighters used monitoring equipment to continually check on the gas levels in the area of the leak. Units were on the scene for 3-1/2 hours. Click here for more information.
