30/September/2017 - Softball Tournament

Colleton Firefighters took third place in the Mount Pleasant Fire Department charity softball tournament held Saturday, 30-sept. Six Fire Department teams competed in the tournament which was held off of Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. All proceeds were donated to the Carolina Children’s Charity. Anyone interested in participating in the Fire-Rescue Softball should contact Lt. Brian Drew.

29/September/2017 – SCFA Firefighter Graduation

Firefighter II Branden Dias graduated from the South Carolina Fire Academy’s Recruit School Friday afternoon 29-September. Dias is the younger brother of Firefighter-Paramedic Kristin Dias currently assigned to Station 1 & 13 and serves as a volunteer with Fire-Rescue. He was one of twenty-one participants who completed the eight week training course in Columbia. Click here for more information.

27/September/2017 – Structure Fire – “B” shift

A Ruffin family was displaced following an afternoon fire that destroyed half of their home Wednesday, 27-September. At 17:05, Fire-Rescue was notified of the incident when a neighbor noticed flames coming from the roof of the home at 413 Double Churches Road. Engine 18 arrived minutes later to find heavy fire conditions on the west side of the single story residential dwelling. The roof over the garage had already collapsed. 24/September/2017 – Fatal MVC with Ejection – “B” Shift

A Colleton County man died from multiple traumatic injuries in a single vehicle MVC in the 7400 block of Sidneys Road Sunday afternoon 24-September at 14:30. The southbound Dodge pickup truck appeared to have lost control in a curve, over corrected and entered the ditch. The truck flipped over at least once, ejected the unrestrained driver and landed on top of the man. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived approximately eight minutes later. Click here for more information.

23/September/2017 – Shooting Incident – “A” Shift

Three people were injured in a shooting incident in the 100 block of Crosby Street Saturday evening 23-September. At 21:02, Law Enforcement and Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a report of a person shot in the leg. While responding, another caller to 9-1-1 reported the injured person had left the scene and was on the way to Colleton Medical Center in a private car. 22/September/2017 – New Helicopter placed in Service – “C” Shift

The Med-Trans, C.A.R.E. (Colleton Air Rescue Evac) Flight Medical Helicopter Program, based at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, a partnership with Colleton County Fire-Rescue, received a new Bell 407 GXP Helicopter Friday 22-September. The new aircraft was delivered at the Lowcountry Regional Airport, where Med Trans and Fire-Rescue personnel swapped the equipment and supplies from the older aircraft to the new one. 22/September/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

At 05:53 on Friday morning 22-September, Fire-Rescue was notified of a two vehicle MVC on I-95 north of the 55 mile marker northbound involving two large trucks. One was reported to be a car carrier and the caller advised the second truck was down an embankment and was “too mangled to tell what it was”. Engine 1 arrived minutes later to report a car carrier was blocking one lane on the bridge and the second vehicle was a single unit box truck that was over turned and down an embankment. 20/September/2017 – MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Two adult females were injured in a two car MVC in the 1500 block of Robertson Blvd. Wednesday evening 20-September at 22:23. A west bound Honda Accord was passing a car on a curve and collided with an east bound Chevrolet Impala. Both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed and sustained heavy damage in the collision. The driver of the Accord received non-life threatening injuries and was walking around the accident scene, however the driver of the Impala received multiple traumatic injuries. 19/September/2017 – Fatal MVC with Ejection – “B” Shift

A Florida woman lost her life in a single car MVC in the 100 block of Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) just north of Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) Tuesday morning 19-September. A 07:01, a passing motorist spotted the overturned Ford Focus well off of the roadway in a wooded area. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived within minutes from Station # 13 one mile north of the scene. 17/September/2017 – MVC with ejection – “A” Shift

Five people were injured in a two car MVC Sunday afternoon 17-September at 16:24. Both vehicles were traveling east on Charleston when the collision occurred. A Jeep Cherokee collided with the back of a small Chevrolet passenger car, then over turned in the ditch, ejecting the 18 year old driver. The teenager struck a tree and received multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics found the him semi-conscious and quickly extricated him from the ditch. Click here for more information.

16/September/2017 – Shooting Incident – “C” Shift

A 49 year old Ravenel man was critically injured in a shooting incident Saturday evening in the 1500 block of Hampton Street. 9-1-1 was notified at 20:57 after then man ran to the Orange Convenience store for help. Fire-Rescue Car 112 was near the location and arrived about one minute after the dispatch. The patient was found near the front door of the store bleeding profusely from the right upper arm. 16/September/2017 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift

A 27 year old Walterboro man was critically injured in a high speed single car MVC in the 1000 block of South Jefferies Blvd. by Live Oak Cemetery Saturday morning 16-September at 06:38. The southbound 2005 Honda left the roadway and struck two large Oak trees. The impact caused heavy damage to the small car. Walterboro Police Officers found the driver unconscious in the car. 13/September/2017 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift 

A Ritter home was saved after a fire broke out in the kitchen Wednesday morning 13-September. Fire-Rescue was notified of the incident at 08:54. Engine 6 arrived minutes later to find smoke coming from all sides and the eaves of the doublewide mobile home. Crews could see fire burning in the center of the residence. One 1-3/4 handline was deployed and Firefighter-Paramedics made entry through the front door. Click here for more information.

13/September/2017 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift

Two people were severely injured in a head-on crash in the 2200 block of Mt. Carmel Road Wednesday morning 13-September. At 04:44, Fire-Rescue units were notified of the accident just south of Ruffin Road. Engine 26 and Medic 26 arrived within 2 minutes from Station # 26 one mile from the scene. Units found the road blocked by the two vehicles, a small car and a small pickup truck. Click here for more information.

11/September/2017 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

At 13:03 Monday afternoon during the peak of Tropical force winds from Hurricane Irma, a neighbor reported smoke and flames coming from a residence located at 141 Capital Road in the Jacksonboro Community. Engine 2 arrived minutes later to find a singlewide mobile home with moderate smoke coming from the front and eaves of the building. Click here for more information.

Edisto Island Residents - Pursuant to the Governor ordered evacuation, the ambulances assigned to Edisto Island are being relocated to inland stations today at 5:00 PM.  There will be no ambulances on the island late this afternoon and for the duration of the storm.  It is essential and perhaps even a matter of life and death that you comply with the Governor's evacuation order.  If you do not evacuate and have a medical emergency during the storm (traumatic injury, heart attack, stroke, etc.), the closest ambulance will be in Jacksonboro.  That unit may be responding to other calls for service or unable to reach you due to blocked roads.  Colleton County Fire-Rescue implores you to heed the Governor's evacuation order.  The shelter at Colleton County Middle School (1379 Tuskegee Airmen Drive, Walterboro) is open.

09/September/2017 – Woods Fire – “A” Shift

Approximately 5 acres of woods was destroyed in the 3500 block of Mt. Nebo Road near Ashton, Saturday afternoon 09- September, when a tractor and disc harrow clipped a guide wire causing a power pole to break. The power lines fell on the tractor and due to arching, started a brush fire. Brisk winds quickly spread the flames into a nearby field of planted pines.  At 13:31, Fire-Rescue was notified. Engine 23 arrived to find a fast moving woods fire well off the roadway. Click here for more information.

Governor McMaster has ordered an evacuation of Edisto Island effective 11:00 am Saturday morning 9-September-2017. The shelter at Colleton County Middle School (1379 Tuskegee Airmen Drive, Walterboro) will open Saturday morning also.

05/September/2017 – Apparatus MVC – “A” Shift 

Two Firefighter-Paramedics and two civilians were injured after a large moving van struck the rear of Medic 13 and then overturned on I-95 near the 51 mile marker southbound. The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon 05-September at 14:01. Engine 1 and Medic 13 had responded to a MVC at the same location. A thunderstorm was passing through the area bringing heavy rains. The Engine and Medic pulled into the breakdown lane when the moving van lost control and collided with the ambulance. Click here for more information.

01-September-2017 / MVC with Air Evac / “C” Shift

A 26 year old male was severely injured after his pickup truck left the roadway and struck a large pine tree Friday afternoon 01-September. At 12:57 Fire-Rescue units were sent to the 4900 block of Black Road, west of Edward Road. Units arrived to find the pickup truck with heavy damage stuck on the tree stump. The force of the impact, splinted the pine tree and broke the trunk approximately three from the ground. The male driver was conscious and suffered traumatic injuries.
