29/November/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A family of four was displaced following a fire in their home in the 100 block of Akins Ln Wednesday afternoon 29-November at 17:17. Engine 13 arrived to find heavy fire conditions at the front of the single story wood frame structure. The electrical service line to the building had fallen in the yard and energized a car that was being worked on in the yard. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building and quickly knocked down the fire on the exterior of the home. Click here for additional information. |

28/November/2023 - Medical Emergency with Air Evac - "B" Shift CARE Flight responded to the baseball field on Saxby Hill Road to transport a patient suffering from a life threatening medical emergency to Trident Medical Center. Firefighter-Paramedics on Medic 6 treated the patient at a residence on Bowman Ln, then transported her the short distance to the baseball field. The patient received additional care prior to being flown to Trident. Click here for additional information. |

24/November/2023 - Condolences Fire-Rescue offers condolences to Lt. David Sauls (Station 7) and his family on the passing of David's father, David "Big David" Sauls, Jr. of Smoaks. He was 97 years old. A memorial service was held at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro Sunday afternoon at 15:00. The chapel was packed to capacity which is a tribute to the well loved man. 23/November/2023 - Thanksgiving Meal On duty Colleton First responders had a more joyous Thanksgiving thanks to two Orangeburg County men. The emergency responders were on duty Thanksgiving day and away from their families. Josh Mitchum and Charlie Johnson felt the need to give back to those serving their communities. The pair select emergency responder agencies in the area each year and offer to provide the Thanksgiving meal to those working on the holiday. This year they selected Colleton County. 23/November/2023 - MVC with Air Evac - "C" Shift An adult female was seriously injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC in the 4000 block of Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) Thursday morning 23-November at 09:43. The northbound passenger car left the roadway and struck the ditch bank, then flipped over several times. The woman was an unrestrained passenger in the car. She suffered multiple injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated her at the scene and called for a medical helicopter. 18/November/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift At 16:00, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire behind a business in the 1600 block of Hampton Street. Fire units and Sheriff's Deputies responded to the location but there was no fire. Units began searching the area and a few minutes later located the fire three blocks away in the 300 block of Edgewood Street. Engine 19, arrived to find a small singlewide mobile home with heavy smoke visible and flames coming from the roof. Click here for additional information. |

18/November/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A Jonesville home was damaged in a morning fire Saturday 18-November. At 10:38, a neighbor notified 9-1-1 of smoke coming from a home in the 300 block of Ground Circle. Engine 13 arrived minutes later to find a double wide mobile home with heavy smoke visible from all sides and flames coming from the roof in the rear of the building. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines and forced entry through the front door. Click here for additional information. |

17/November/2023 - New Tender Lesslie Fabrication delivered the first of three new Workhorse Tenders last week. The 3000 gallon poly/wetside tender is mounted on a Kenworth T-880 chassis. The vehicle is equipped with a Hale 500 GPM PTO pump, Newton stainless steel 12 inch dump, hydraulic drop tank rack, one 1-3/4 pre-connect, SCBAs, two 2-1/2 inch discharges and an assortment of equipment and supply hose. The first unit has been assigned to Station # 19. It will be replacing a 2013 Tender, the busiest Tender in the County. Click here for additional information. |

14/November/2022 - Explorer Anniversary Dinner Celebrating their 16th year, Fire-Rescue Explorers enjoyed a Dinner at their bi-monthly meeting 14-November. The adult leaders prepared the meal. After eating, the group battled in a game of kickball with the Explorers vs the Adults. |

14/November/2023 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "C" Shift A 22 year old female was fatally injured in a shooting incident at a residence in the 500 block of Red Bank Road, Tuesday afternoon 14-November at 12:24. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. The woman was in critical condition at the scene. An off duty Dorchester County Firefighter rendered aid shortly after the incident occurred. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the patient at the scene which included the administration of whole blood. 11/November/2023 - MVC with Ejection - "C" Shift At 22:35, Saturday evening 11-November, a west bound pickup truck traveling on McLeod Rd near Pleasant Grove Rd, left the roadway and struck several trees. The vehicle overturned and bystanders advised the driver was ejected. The impact uprooted one pine tree and the truck struck a second pine tree causing heavy damage to the Ford. Debris littered the roadway. The bystanders rendered aid to the male driver until Fire-Rescue units arrived. Click here for additional information. |

09/November/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A Cottageville home was destroyed in a mid-day fire in the 1200 block of Mistletoe Lane Friday 09-November at 14:05. There were reports of explosions from the residence. Cottageville Police Officers arrived at the scene first and felt the fire was suspicious in origin. They contacted the SLED (State Police) Arson Unit before Fire-Rescue arrived. Click here for additional information. |

05/November/2023 - Structure/Vehicle Fire - "C" Shift At 21:06, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire in the 100 block of Lotus Ct, north of Cottageville. A neighbor advised 9-1-1 that they heard an explosion and could see flames through the woods. Engine 9 arrived to find a singlewide mobile home approximately 70% involved, two campers that were well involved and four vehicles next to the mobile home on fire. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines and used the deck gun on Engine 9 to combat the fires. Tenders supplied water for the firefighting effort on the small one lane dirt road. 05/November/2023 - Veterans Day Parade Fire-Rescue participated in the annual Veteran's Day parade which took place in downtown Walterboro, Sunday afternoon 06-November at 15:00. Seven Fire-Rescue units were involved in the parade. The route began at the Colleton Center on Hampton St and traveled through Washington St through the business district. Nearly 50 units participated to honor our Veterans. Click here for additional information. |

05/November/2023 - Funeral Annoucement We were sadly informed of the passing of retired firefighter Israel Ray Hodges from Station 5. Ray Hodges was an active community leader in the Oakman Branch/Canadys area and served as a Volunteer Captain with the former Canadys Volunteer Fire Dept, which became Station 5 when Fire Rescue was formed in 1994. Mr. Hodges was a dedicated firefighter and served his community for nearly two decades. He retired a little over ten years ago, but remained active serving in his church and working to better the Oakman Branch/Canadys area. Click here for additional information. |

04/November/2023 - Shooting Incident - "B" Shift A 33 year old Catholic Hill man was critically injured in a shooting incident that occured in the 100 block of Clover Hill Road Saturday afternoon 04-November at 15:19. The man was involved in a domestic dispute. Sheriff's Deputies secured the scene, and Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man's injuries. A medical helicopter was requested. 03/November/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift Six people were injured in a two vehicle MVC at the intersection of Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21) and Smyly Road Friday afternoon 03-November at 15:26. One vehicle was struck in the driver's door causing approximately 1-1/2 feet of intrusion into the car, trapping the driver. Fire-Rescue Medic 18 transported five patients from one vehicle to Colleton Medical Center. Medic 7's crew treated the man trapped in a small car that ended on the sidewalk. 02/November/2023 - CERT Basic Training
Congratulations to Colleton County Fire-Rescue’s Community Emergency Response Team's (CERT) certified members. The group completed the 20 hour CERT Basic Training Course and passed both a cognitive and psychomotor exam on 2 November. Chief Barry McRoy stated, "Fire-Rescue is proud of their dedication to the program and we look forward to watching them further their education to better serve the community."
