31/March/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift A two vehicle MVC at the intersection of Green Pond Hwy (SC Hwy 303) and Proctor Street closed the intersection and sent two people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger car and pickup truck collided causing the truck to flip over blocking Green Pond Highway. The driver of the truck was entrapped. The cab on the truck was crushed and crews were able to remove the windshield to extricate the driver. Click here for additional information. |

31/March/2024 - Medical Emergency with Air Evac - "C" Shift On Sunday afternoon 31-March, an adult male in the Ruffin Community suffered a critical medical emergency. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, then transported him to Bells Elementary School to meet with the CARE Flight medical helicopter. CARE Flight landed in the field in front of the school. The patient was transferred to the flight crew without incident, then flown to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. 22/March/2024 - MVC with Resuscitation - "C" Shift Firefighter-Paramedics successfully resuscitated an adult female, following a high speed MVC in the 3000 block of Ruffin Road at the intersection of Big Hill Road Friday 22-March at 14:07. The west bound sedan left the roadway and entered the ditch, then crossed over both lanes of traffic and struck the railroad bed. Engine 26 and Medic 26 found the driver unconscious and in cardiac arrest. They quickly extricated her from the vehicle and began ALS procedures. Click here for additional information. |

20/March/2024 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift Firefighter-Paramedics saved a Green Pond home Wednesday afternoon 20-March. At 12:25 the resident called 9-1-1 to report a storage building on fire. Engine 6 arrived at 247 Springhill Road to find the small storage building fully involved. The storage building was located next to the doublewide mobile home. The flames spread to the mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one hand line to the buildings and quickly knocked down the flames on the mobile home. They then worked on the storage building which contained a heavy fire load. 20/March/2024 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A residential dwelling was destroyed in an early morning fire at 1183 Tyler Road Wednesday morning 20-March. The home is located on lightly traveled rural road. At 07:19, an off-duty Firefighter passed the residence and called 9-1-1 advising the home was already on the ground. Engine 1 arrived to find the single story, wood frame structure was completely destroyed and collapsed. They canceled other responding units. Firefighters cooled the remaining debris. Apparently, the occupants left the residence about two hours prior. Click here for more information. |

18/March/2024 - Shooting incident - "B" Shift An adult male was critically injured after he was shot in the neck at 500 Rivers Street Monday afternoon 18-March at 16:43. The Sheriff's Office and City Police secured the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man, then transported him emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. He was given life saving whole blood, IV fluids and medications, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Click here for additional information. |

16/March/2024 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A large storage building was destroyed in an afternoon fire at a residence in the 900 block of Turkey Hill Lane Saturday 16-March. At 15:50, 9-1-1 was notified of a grass fire at the location. Engine 6 and Medic 6 arrived to find an approximately 1/2 acre grass and woods fire, with a large storage building on fire. A structural response was assigned to the incident. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to control the fire. The fire spread from a debris fire in a pit near the storage building. 16/March/2024 - Shooting Incident An adult male received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm Saturday afternoon 16-March at 13:24. The incident occurred at an apartment in the 1000 block of Proctor Street during a suspected domestic dispute. County Sheriff's Deputies and City Police quickly secured the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man, then transported him to Colleton Medical Center. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. Click here for additional information. |

15 & 16 March/2024 - Statewide Exercise Continues The Statewide Exercise (Disaster Drill) continued Friday and Saturday. On Friday 15-March, local responders conducted a mass casualty exercise at Colleton County High School. The exercise involved 40 injuries varying in severity. Students were not at the school Friday due to a teacher work day. The large facility poses many logistical challenges. Many local and state agencies participated including Law Enforcement, Fire-Rescue, SCDOT, City of Walterboro, Town of Edisto Beach, DNR, the Recreation Center, Colleton Medical Center, CARE Flight and surrounding hospitals and responders. 13/March/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift A multi-vehicle collision blocked Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) east of Cottageville for two hours Wednesday morning 14-March at 06:38. The accident occurred on a dark rural section of the highway at the intersection with Indian Oaks Lane. A pickup truck pulling a trailer became disabled and was parked on the south bound shoulder, partially in the roadway. A south bound Chevrolet Trailblazer collided with the trailer causing the small SUV to enter the northbound lane where it was immediately struck. Click here for additional information. |

12/March/2024 - Statewide Exercise (Tuesday & Wednesday) Colleton County participated in the SC Statewide Exercise which is intended to test and evaluate capabilities of preparedness, emergency response capabilities and mutual aid at all levels of State and local governments. The primary scenario for 2024 involved a large-scale earthquake hitting the Lowcountry region, primarily centered in the metro Charleston area. The exercise (drill) was divided up into different portions and took place over a week and half. On Tuesday, Colleton Fire-Rescue and the Sheriff's Office conducted their portion at West Bank Landing off of Hope Plantation Lane in Jacksonboro. Click here for more information. |

10/March/2024 - Motorcycle MVC - "C" Shift Two people were injured, one seriously, after two motorcycles collided on I-95 near the 57 mile marker northbound. The two Harley Davidson motorcycles were traveling northbound in heavy traffic, when one three wheel motorcycle slowed suddenly and the second struck the rear of the first. The impact caused the female driver to fall into the highway and the three wheeled motorcycle overturned on the shoulder. The second motorcycle crashed into the median. Debris littered the highway blocking the northbound lanes. Click here for more information. |

09/March/2024 - Fatal MVC A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger critically injured after their motorcycle was struck head-on by a passenger car on Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) at the Edisto River Saturday afternoon 09-March. At 14:49, Colleton 9-1-1 received several reports of the accident with callers advising of multiple injured people. Three Fire-Rescue Ambulances were dispatched to the accident. Bystanders provided care for the injured until First Responders arrived. Click here for more information. |

08/March/2024 - Telecommunicator of the Year Award Captain Angela Stallings of the Sheriff's Office, was recognized as the South Carolina Telecommunicator of the Year by the SC EMS Association. She was presented an award at the SC EMS Conference held in Myrtle Beach Friday evening 08-March. All EMS Agencies in SC are eligible to submit Dispatchers who they feel are worthy of the award. 04/March/2024 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift Fire-Rescue responded to a second suspicious building fire over the weekend in the 800 block of Poplar Street at 04:33 Monday morning 04-March. A passerby reported the fire to 9-1-1. Engine 19 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home fully involved and over half of the roof had already collapsed. The home was not occupied. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building to extinguish the fire. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. The home was destroyed. Click here for additional information. |

02/March/2024 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A singlewide mobile home was destroyed in an early morning fire in the 100 block of Crestview Lane Saturday morning 02-March at 01:00. A passerby reported the fire to 9-1-1. Engine 19 arrived to find the unoccupied dwelling fully involved. Crews deployed two handlines to the building to combat the fire. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly brought the fire under control. They were on the scene for two hours performing overhaul. The cause of the fire is suspicious. Click here for additional information. |
