31-March -2022 - We offer condolences to Fire-Rescue (Fleet Management) mechanic Randy Bishop and his family. Randy's mother, Mary "Terry" Bishop passed away 31-March. She was 77 years old. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at Adnah United Methodist Church in Islandton. The funeral service will be held Saturday at Adnah Church 02-April at 11:00. Please remember the Bishop family in your prayers. | |
31-March-2022 - MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift A 34 year old Charleston man was injured in a single car MVC on Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64) just east of Neyles Crossroads Thursday afternoon 31-March at 17:45. The 2016 Kia Rio was traveling east on Charleston Hwy when it failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle entered the ditch at a high rate of speed, struck a power pole and fence before overturning. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the car. The vehicle came to rest on top of the driver, trapping him under the car. Click here for additional information. |

30-March-2022 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift At 12:18, 30-March, Fire-Rescue and the City of Walterboro Fire Dept were sent to the area of Acorn Road and Sniders Hwy for a structure fire. Initial calls indicated the fire was at the old Palms Inn Motel which is in the City. The first arriving WFD unit arrived and verified the incident was at 97 Acorn St behind the motel in the County. Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the location and arrived a short time later. Engine 26 noted the block auto repair shop had heavy smoke visible and fire coming from the roof. 23/March/2022 - Smoke Detector Installations - "B" Shift Fire-Rescue's Prevention Division coordinated and conducted smoke detector installations in the Gadsden Loop area on the morning of Wednesday, 23-March at 09:00. With the assistance of SC State Fire and Fire-Rescue's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members, the Prevention Division was able to install 80 smoke detectors and two combination smoke / carbon monoxide detectors in the Green Park subdivision. 22/March/2022 - Woods & Workshop Fire - "A" Shift At 14:17, Tuesday 22-March, an alert Deputy was on patrol in the Canadys Community when he spotted a large black smoke column behind a residence and went to investigate. He located a large woods fire and a workshop on fire. Fire-Rescue units were sent to the scene and deployed multiple handlines from several apparatus. The fire is believed to have spread from an unattended debris pile on the adjacent property and involved approximately 15 acres. The fire had reached a container that was converted to a workshop, which had an addition and a covered shed. Click here for additional information. |

22/March/2022 - Residential Camper Fire - "C" Shift A camper, used as a residence, was destroyed in a morning fire Tuesday 22-March at 07:47. The fire occurred in the 200 block of Fennell Ln near Round O. The occupant advised he was awakened by a loud pop and saw fire in the back of the camper near the bathroom. He, an adult female and their dog were able to escape the burning camper uninjured. Upon exiting, he found the grounds around the camper and a pickup truck parked near the back of the camper were also on fire. Engine 9 arrived a few minutes later to find the camper and the pick up truck both well involved. Click here for additional information. |

17/March/2022 - Fatal Structure Fire - "B" Shift At 23:56, Thursday evening 17-March, Fire-Rescue units were sent to the 100 block of Gadsden Loop for a structure fire with entrapment. On arrival, Car 118 found a single story brick veneer dwelling well involved with fire coming from the roof, front windows and door. A 24 year old occupant advised she was on the front porch when she heard a loud pop inside the home. When she went to investigate, the power was off and she found smoke banked about four feet from the floor. She made an attempt to reach a 59 year old female in a back bedroom, but was driven out by the heat and smoke. Click here for additional information. |

16/March/2022 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift An adult female received serious injuries after her car flipped over in the driveway of 3214 Peniel Rd Wednesday afternoon 16-March at 12:56. The Chevrolet Malibu struck a tree. The unrestrained driver was partially ejected and the car rolled over trapping her arm under the vehicle. A canine was also in the vehicle. The dog may have broken its tail, but otherwise did not appear to suffer any other injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to lift the car off of the woman's arm. 15/March/2022 - Statewide Exercise "A", "B" and "C" Shifts Colleton County Fire-Rescue and the Emergency Management Division, participated in the annual Statewide Exercise through SCEMD. This type of drill is conducted annually and involves many agencies locally and throughout the State. It runs all week including Saturday and tests many aspects of emergency response and many support agencies. This year the State is exercising on a flooding event. 14/March/2022 - Structure Fire - ""B" Shift A Prairie Ln residence was destroyed in an evening fire Monday night 14-March at 20:45. The homeowner advised he heard noises and opened the back door to find the rear porch engulfed in flames. He was able to get the rest of the family safely out of the home and notify 9-1-1. Car 103 arrived to find the single family dwelling fully involved, with the roof already collapsed in the center. Engine 19 deployed multiple handlines and used the deck gun on the fire. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, but were on the scene for three and half hours performing overhaul. Click here for additional information. |

12/March/2022 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift An alert 10 year old helped save a Jones Swamp residence Saturday morning 12-March. At 13:06, the boy noticed smoke coming from a home across the street in the 1200 block of Jones Swamp Road. He told his grandfather who called 9-1-1. Fire-Rescue units from Station 26 arrived about three minutes later to find smoke coming from the doublewide mobile home. Firefighters deployed one handline and entered the building through the rear door. They encountered fire in a utility room that had burned into the master bedroom. 12/March/2022 - EMS Large System of the Year Colleton County Fire-Rescue was honored at the annual EMS Symposium as SC Large EMS System of the Year. The department was recognized for performance, training programs and the Blood Administration Project which resulted in a change in the scope of practice for SC Paramedics. It is an honor to receive the award. Chief McRoy and Battalion Chief (CMO) Joseph Campbell accepted the award on behalf of the department. McRoy noted that Fire-Rescue was not alone in implementing the Blood Administration Project. Click here for more information. |

10/March/2022 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift Three people were injured, one fatally, in a two vehicle accident on I-95 near the 68 mile marker SB, Thursday morning 10-March at 10:35. Both vehicles, a Chev. Suburban and a Jeep were traveling southbound when they collided and drove off of the right hand shoulder, crossed a water filled ditch and struck several trees. The Suburban received heavy front end damage and trapped the driver in the wreckage. The Suburban was carrying a full load in the rear and the items were propelled forward into the front passenger section. All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. 3/10/2022- Ms. Martha Faulkner advises the Maple Cane Baptist Church is hosting a Perlo Fund Raiser for Station # 9 Firefighter Andy Sahlmann on 02-April at the Church from 4PM to 6PM located at 21324 Augusta Hwy. Mr. Sahlmann lost his leg due to medical problems back in December. Plates are $10. If you would like to purchase a ticket in advance, please contact Ms. Faulkner at (843) 870-2162. | |
08/March/2022 - Shooting Incident - "B" Shift An adult male received an accidental, gunshot wound to the leg Tuesday afternoon 08-March at 15:09. The man advised he was walking on Verdier St near Park Ave when a small caliber pistol he was carrying fell from his pocket and discharged, striking him in the leg. The man was in stable condition. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him at the scene, then transported him to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. The Walterboro Police Dept. is investigating the incident. The South Carolina statewide full-scale exercise is being held next
week. Colleton County Fire-Rescue will be conducting various
exercises and drills throughout the week. The most visible of
these drills will be at West Bank Landing in Jacksonboro on Tuesday,
March 15th. West Bank Landing will be largely inaccessible to
the public due to the number of Fire-Rescue apparatus present
between 7:00 AM that morning until shortly after lunchtime.
Community members are encouraged to avoid the area, if possible. Be aware that a number of emergency vehicles (fire engines, medic units, etc.) will be in the Jacksonboro area and at West Bank Landing on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. |

3/7/2022- The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert, effective at 6 a.m. Monday, March 7th and is expected to remain in place until later this week. The alert is being issued to discourage people from burning outdoors when weather conditions present an elevated risk of wildfire. | |
05/March/22 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift A large open garage and workshop was heavily damaged by an afternoon fire in the 400 block of Pellum Rd Saturday afternoon 05-March. At 15:36, 9-1-1 received reports of the building being on fire. The property owner was able to free several dogs in a kennel inside the garage. One dog was injured in the fire. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the building on arrival, as well as an approximately 1/2 acre woods fire. Crews deployed several handlines to extinguish the fire. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, but were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours performing overhaul. Click here for additional information. |

05/March/2022 - Woods & Building Fire - "B" Shift An outdoor storage building was destroyed and several acres of woods and brush burned in an afternoon fire in the 400 block of Peirce Rd in the Town of Cottageville at15:36 on Saturday 05-March. Engine 9 arrived to find the storage building fully involved and it collapsed shortly after arrival. Firefighters were able to keep the grass fire from reaching a nearby home. 05/March/22 - Dive Training Several members of the Dive Team began training on the new Dry Suits which were funded by a donation from a local charity organization. Instructor, Fletcher Ferguson, conducted an orientation and training on dry suits. They spent most of Saturday, beginning at the Citadel Pool in Charleston and later moved to a rock quarry in Ravenal. The addition of the Dry Suits will improve our water rescue capabilities and allow for safer diving in cold water operations. Click here for additional information. |

04/March/2022 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A large outside storage building, a camper, two passenger cars and a motorcycle were destroyed in an afternoon fire at 109 Hardee Circle east of Walterboro Friday 04-March. A mobile home was damaged, as well as a storage building, a second camper and two mopeds on the adjacent property. A passing motorist alerted the homeowner to the fire, who then called 9-1-1. The fire is believed to have started in the storage building and spread to the camper and vehicles. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the fires on both properties. 03/March/2022 - MVC with Medevac - "C" Shift An adult male suffered multiple traumatic injuries after his motorcycle struck a downed tree in the 500 block of Mewville Rd south of Hendersonville, Thursday afternoon 03-March at 17:34. The man was found lying in the roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested a medical helicopter to fly him to a Trauma Center. CARE Flight responded, landing in the baseball field on Black Creek Road. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident. Click here for additional information. |

03/March/2022 - Woods Fires - "C" Shift Thursday afternoon continued to be busy with multiple multi-acre woods fires in various areas of the county. The larger responses involved fires on Poinsetta Ln where a multi-acre fire endangered several homes. Nine Fire-Rescue units and Forestry units worked the fire for several hours. Firefighters were able to protect all of the homes. A multi-acre grass and woods fire occurred on Magwood Bryant Rd in Green Pond. The fire was contained and did not damage any homes. 02/March/2022 - Woods & Structure Fire - "B" Shift At 16:04, while northside units were already working a two alarm fire on Bent Gate Ln, 9-1-1 dispatched a grass and woods fire in the 2900 block of Hughes Dr. While Engine 9 was enroute, the fire was upgraded to a structure fire reporting two outside storage buildings were on fire. Engine 9, arrived to find a 3 acre wood/grass fire with the two storage buildings and a camper involved. Several homes were threatened, one that received radiant heat damage to a brand new doublewide mobile that was being set up. Click here for additional information. |

02/March/2022 - Woods & Structure Fires - "B" Shift An unattended woods fire spread to a storage building, vehicle and mobile home Wednesday afternoon 02-March. At 15:40 a caller to 9-1-1 reported that a woods fire had spread to an outbuilding in the 400 block of Bent Gate Ln in the Springtown Community. Engine 7 arrived to find approximately 5 acres of woods and brush on fire, as well as a fully involved passenger car, a fully involved 12x12 storage building and a singlewide mobile home that was approximately 30% involved.
