29/December/2023 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift An adult male was transported to Colleton Medical Center after his car struck two tractor trailers in the 8400 block of Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) Friday afternoon 29-December at 15:51. The man was driving a Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Jefferies Hwy when he became unconscious. His vehicle entered the southbound lane with oncoming traffic. Two tractor trailers swerved into the northbound lane to avoid a head-on collision. The Equinox struck the trailer of the first truck, knocking off the rear tires, then side swiped the second trailer before striking the rear wheels. Click here for additional information. |

27/December/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A fire in a mobile home caused damage to the building Wednesday afternoon 27-December in the 1200 block of Lumber Road north of the Town of Williams. Engine 18 arrived to find light smoke coming from the doublewide mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline and entered through the front door. The fire was located near the back door and was quickly extinguished. The home owner discovered the fire and removed a burning table from the utility room and cut off the power to the home, which lessened the damage. Click here for additional information. |

25/December/2023 - Camper Fire - "A" Shift A camper used as a residence at Green Acres Campground, 396 Campground Road was destroyed in an early morning fire Christmas day, 25-December. At 04:56, neighbors alerted 9-1-1 to the fire when they were awakened by the noise. Engine 1 arrived to find the camper fully involved with flames impending on the camper next to it. Crews quickly knocked down the fire which destroyed the camper and damaged the one next to it. No one was at home when the fire occurred. Click here for additional information. |

23/December/2023 - MVC with Fire - "C" Shift
Two vehicle accidents involving four vehicles
blocked the southbound lanes of I-95 at the 42 mile
marker, Saturday morning 23-December at 09:17.
Holiday traffic was heavy, with bumper to bumper
traffic when the vehicles collided. One car caught
fire, but all occupants were able to safely exit the
vehicle. Engine 13 arrived to find the passenger car
fully involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one

22/December/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift An old addition to a building was destroyed in an early morning fire in the 100 block of Cox Street Friday 22/December at 03:07. 9-1-1 Operators received a 9-1-1 hang up call from the area and dispatched Sheriff's Deputies to investigate. A Deputy arrived to find the 20x20 wood frame structure fully involved. Fire-Rescue was dispatched and Engine 19 arrived to deploy multiple handlines to the burning building. The fire, which had spread into the nearby woods, was quickly brought under control. Click here for additional information. |

21/December/2023 - Woods and Vehicle Fire - "A" Shift An alert mail carrier discovered a large grass fire that was endangering a home in the 800 block of Cromwell Lane at 13:00 Thursday 21-Dec. Ms. Vicki Tripp was delivering mail on her route when she found the large fire burning. She called 9-1-1. Neighbors also jumped into action and used garden hoses to slow the progression of the fire. Engines 19 and 26 arrived and deployed multiple hand lines to control the blaze. The flames had damaged items in the yard and reached a small Dodge pickup truck which was fully involved. 20/December/2023 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift Six people were injured, two seriously, in a two vehicle accident on Interstate 95 near the 42 mile marker southbound, Wednesday evening 20-December at 20:25. The two southbound vehicles collided in a construction zone. Following the collision, a Jeep went off into the median, while a Sebring convertible drove down an embankment and had a second collision when it struck a tree. The Sebring received heavy damage to the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Both adult occupants suffered multiple injuries. Fire-Rescue crews from Station 13 in Jonesville arrived within minutes. 18/December/2023 - High Speed MVC - "A" Shift An adult male was injured when his pickup truck left Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker NB, struck a guard rail and tumbled down an embankment landing on its side in Ivanhoe Creek. Several bystanders stopped to assist the man. Engine 1, Medic 1 and Rescue 1 arrived and began treating the man. He was transported to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. Northbound I-95 was down to one lane for an hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Click here for additional information. |

17/December/2023 - Nor'easter Edisto Beach suffered flooding from the nor'easter storm that ran up the SC coast Sunday, causing damage from Edisto Island to the North Carolina line. Palmetto Blvd, SC Hwy 174, Yacht Club Road, as well as the Wyndham Complex received high water, blocking access to the roads and the resort. The Causeway to the Island and several roads were closed due to the high water. Charleston harbor recorded its fourth highest tide on record at 9.86 feet. Click here for additional information. |

16/December/2022 - Shopping with Santa's Heroes 2023 Saturday morning 16-December brought some happiness to some local children for Christmas. The kids participated in the annual Shop with Sanat's Heroes event which is coordinated by the Walterboro Police Department. Local Responders from Fire-Rescue, Walterboro Police Dept., Colleton County Sheriff's Office, SLED, SC DNR, Walterboro Fire Dept. and Colleton County DSS assembled at the Wildlife Center parking lot at 06:00. Over 20 local children were selected by DSS to participate. Businesses and individuals donate funds each year to make the event a success and bring a brighter Christmas to local children. 14/December/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift Engine 9 arrived at a residence in the 24600 block of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) to find smoke visible from a double wide mobile home, Thursday afternoon 14-Dec at 15:20. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one hand line and made entry through the front door. They found fire in the kitchen and quickly extinguished the flames. 11/December/2023 - Animal Rescue - "C" Shift
At 12:29, Fire-Rescue responded to 189 Sunrise Road in the Town of Smoaks to assist Colleton County Animal Services Officers (Paul Martin, Diane Cook and Owen Bridge) who located several puppies inside a culvert pipe. The puppies were 30 to 40 feet inside the pipe which ran under a driveway at a manufacturing facility. Several residents had been feeding the mother for several weeks and a new resident watched the dog go into the narrow pipe. Upon investigation she discovered the puppies. 09/December/2023 - Christmas and Awards Banquet Fire-Rescue held the annual Christmas Dinner and Awards Banquet at the Colleton County Middle School Saturday evening 09-December at 17:00. County Firefighters and CERT Members from across the county gathered to celebrate Christmas and enjoy some time together. This year set a milestone with two Firefighters reaching 50 years of service with the department. Captain John Graham and Lt. David Sauls both with Station # 7 began their service as volunteers who assisted with starting the Town of Smoaks Fire Department in 1973. Click here for additional information. |

05/December/2023 - Evacuation Zone Changes Deputy Chief Dr. David Greene made a presentation to the County Council regarding the upcoming changes to the County's Hurricane Evacuation Zones. The County previously had two evacuation zones which presented problems when neighboring counties had to perform evacuations. It was decided to create a third zone to improve the evacuation process. Greene explained that Edisto Beach and now the Bennetts Point Area south of the Ashepoo River will be in Zone "A" (RED). Click here for additional information. |

05/December/2023 - Debris and Structure Fires - "C" Shift Two outside storage buildings and a great deal of debris and stored items were destroyed or damaged in an afternoon fire on Gadsden Loop near June Street Tuesday 05-December at 12:52. The fire originated on the neighboring property from a yard debris fire. Light winds spread the fire to the yard on Gadsden Loop. The home had a great deal of items stored in the backyard. The flames also spread to two large storage buildings on the property. County Firefighters deployed multiple handlines to the back yard to extinguish the buildings and spent several hours performing overhaul on the items in the yard. Click here for more information. |

05/December/2023 - Promotion Announcement Chief McRoy announces the promotion of Lieutenant Cody Hutto to the rank of Captain. Obtaining the rank of Captain requires completing many prerequisite courses, passing an arduous written exam, several practical scenarios and an intensive interview. 03/December/2023 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift An adult male was injured in a shooting incident at Hillcrest Apartments, 518 Sniders Hwy Sunday evening 03-December-2023 at 20:23. The incident took place in the "B" building where at least one apartment was hit by several rounds and the patient received what is believed to have been a glancing hit to the head. Firefighter-Paramedics and Law Enforcement Officers from the City of Walterboro, Sheriff's Office and Highway Patrol arrived quickly. Click here for additional information. |

03/December/2023 - Christmas Parade Fire-Rescue and many other agencies participated in the large Walterboro Christmas Parade. This year's parade was well attended with participants and attendees. The parade was held at night, providing participants the opportunity to light up their floats and vehicles. Some units put a great deal of effort into their decorations adding to the splendor. The crowds seemed to enjoy the show. Hamptons Street, North Jefferies and Washington Street were lined with the standing room only crowd. Click here for additional information. |
