31/October/2022 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift Two people perished in a single vehicle MVC in the 1700 block of Hiers Corner Road, Monday evening 31-October. 9-1-1 received reports of the accident at 18:17. A 1999 Ford Mustang was traveling north on Hiers Corner Road and dropped off of the southbound shoulder after a curve. The vehicle struck several mailboxes, overcorrected and crossed back to the northbound side of the road. The car entered the ditch where it flipped over ejecting the two unrestrained adult occupants. 30/October/2022 - MVC with Ejection - "C" Shift An adult male was transported to a Trauma Center after being ejected from a car that struck a tree Sunday morning 30-October. At 02:04, 9-1-1 was notified of the accident in the 15000 block of Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21) south of Bells Crossroads. The southbound 1989 Corvette lost control in a curve, overcorrected and crossed to the northbound side of the road. The vehicle which was traveling at a high rate of speed, struck a large pine tree. The car received heavy damage, flipped over and ejected the driver. He was found semi-conscious in the woods near the car. Click here for additional information. |

29/October/2022 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift An adult male received a gunshot wound to the leg in an incident that occurred at another location. At 13:56 Saturday 29-October, a Sheriff's Deputy was flagged down at the intersection of Wichman St and Washington St. He discovered an adult male in a vehicle that had been shot and radioed for medical assistance. The vehicle had been hit by a bullet and it appeared the bullet ricocheted, striking the man in the side and then the leg. Click here for additional information. |

29/October/2022 - Shooting Incident / Hunting Accident - "C Shift A Charleston man was shot with buckshot in a reported accidental hunting accident Saturday morning 29-October. 9-1-1 was notified of the incident at 10:20. The man and several other hunters met with Responders at the intersection of Wiggins Road and Grain Bin Road near Chehaw Landing. The man received what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury. He was treated at the scene, then transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 6 to the Trauma Center at MUSC. Click here for additional information. |

27/October/2022 - Auto Pedestrian MVC - "A" Shift An adult male was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21) north of Phoenix Circle Thursday evening 27-October. The incident was reported at 21:49 and bystanders advised it was related to street racing. Despite Firefighter-Paramedics being three miles away, the critically injured man was placed in a private car and driven to Orangeburg. At some point they were met by Orangeburg County EMS near the the City of Orangeburg. Click here for additional information. |

27/October/2022 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A fire destroyed the remainder of a singlewide mobile home located at the corner of Tika Street and Smoak Road Thursday evening 27-October. Engine 19 arrived to find the building well involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two hand lines to the building to extinguish the fire. The building had previously burned on 12-May with half of the building left standing. It is believed the fire was intentionally set. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire. 27/October/2022 - 4 Wheeler MVC with Air Evac - "A" Shift
A small child was seriously injured in a four wheeler
accident Thursday afternoon 27-October at 16:08. A parent
brought the child to meet with Firefighter-Paramedics near
the intersection of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) and
Rehoboth Road (SC Hwy. 651). Medic 9's crew quickly
evaluated and treated the child and requested a medical
helicopter. She was transported to a field next to
Cottageville Elementary School to meet with CARE Flight.

24/October/2022 - Explorer Anniversary Dinner Fire-Rescue Explorers enjoyed a Dinner at their bi-monthly meeting 24-October. The group celebrated the 15th. year of the Explorer Program with dinner at Station 19. The adult leaders prepared the meal and provided a cake. The Explorer Program is open to any member between the ages of 14 and 17. Explorers learn firefighting and medical skills and attend some SC Fire Academy courses after reaching age 16. 23/October/2022 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift An adult male was critically injured in a shooting incident in the front parking lot of Baymont Inn and Suites, 1286 Sniders Hwy., Sunday morning 23-October 09:37. Walterboro Police arrived quickly to secure the scene, while Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the patient. The man received a life threatening injury which was treated at the scene. A medical helicopter was placed on standby. Fire-Rescue Medic 1 transported the man emergent, with additional personnel onboard to assist with his care. Click here for additional information. |

20/October/2022 - Public Safety Diver Course This week, eight Colleton County Fire-Rescue divers completed a Public Safety Diver course. The intensive course teaches divers how to mitigate in-water emergencies, control scenes, interview witnesses, evaluate water conditions, and determine the number of divers and type of equipment needed for the emergency. Students are also taught proper techniques to safely and efficiently find items and/or persons under water. Click here for additional information. |

16/October/2022 - Semi Truck Fire - "B" Shift Incident # 22-08038 - A semi-truck was destroyed on I-95 Sunday afternoon 16-October near the 50 mile marker southbound. 9-1-1 received the first report of the disabled truck at 14:27. The caller advised the rear wheels on the truck were burning. Responding units could see a thick column of black smoke four miles away. On arrival, Engine 1 found the Kenworth cab and chassis fully involved and approximately half of the box style trailer was involved. The truck was hauling a load of apples. Firefighter-Paramedics |

15-October-2022 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A singlewide mobile home was damaged in the 8800 block of Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21), Saturday 15-October. At 12:30 Fire-Rescue was advised of the building being on fire. Units arrived to find smoke coming from the mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics discovered a fire in the front wall of the structure. Crews deployed one handline and removed the siding to reach the flames. The fire was quickly extinguished saving the residence. A PPV fan was used to force smoke from the building. 14/October/2022 - MVC with Air Evac - "C" Shift Incident # 22-07966 - A three vehicle MVC injured several people, one seriously, Friday 14-Oct at 12:01. The accident occurred on I-95 near the 63 mile marker southbound. Engine 19 and Medic 19 arrived and began treating the injured, An additional Fire-Rescue Ambulance was requested, as well as a medical helicopter was placed on standby. An adult female was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. Click here for additional information. |

12/October/2022 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift Incident # 22-07936 - An adult male was injured in a shooting incident at 404 Whitsel Street, Lincoln Apartments, Wednesday evening 12-October. 9-1-1 was notified at 23:18, advising the male was in front of the 100 building. Walterboro Police secured the scene and Firefighter-Paramedics found the man with injuries to both hands. The incident is reported to have occurred at the rear of the complex. 07/October/2022 - Fire Prevention Fire prevention education began this week with activities at Black Street Childhood Center, Bells Elementary, Hendersonville Elementary, and Colleton Preparatory Academy. The preschoolers learned many safety skills including how to Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothes were to catch on fire and about the importance of smoke detectors in the home. They interacted with Patches, Fire-Rescue’s Robotic Dalmatian and they got to tour a Fire Engine and Ambulance. Fire Prevention activities are taught in all of the schools during the month of October to coincide with National Fire Prevention Week which is October 9th through October 15th. 01/October/2022 - Shooting Incident - "B" Shift An adult male received a gunshot wound to the ankle and foot during a gathering in the 300 block of Little Elbow Rd Saturday afternoon 01-October. The man was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center by Fire-Rescue Medic 1. Medic 26 also responded and stood by at the scene as Sheriff's Deputies searched for the suspect. No other injuries were reported. Click here for additional information. |

25/September through 01/October - Hurricane Ian During the last week of September and the early October, the EOC was staffed to manage the effects of Hurricane Ian. After battering Florida as a high Category four storm, Ian reemerged in the Atlantic and formed as a Category 1 storm. Impacts were forecast to strike anywhere along the SC Coast. The storm made landfall near Georgetown, well north of Colleton County. We saw very little damage from the storm. The EOC received 72 reports of damage from Hurricane Ian. One of those damage reports involved a residence, but fortunately, there were no injuries. Click here for additional information. |
