26/June/2023 - Recreation Center Summer Camp Station 19 attended the Recreation Center Summer Camp Monday morning 26-June. The Fire Prevention Division and EMD Division assisted. The children were taught Fire Safety and toured Medic 19 and Engine 19. The large group had an enjoyable time and the kids learned a great deal about safety. Click here for additional information. |

24/June/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift An adult female was critically injured in a single vehicle MVC on Jacksonboro Road near Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64) west of Jacksonboro Saturday morning 24-June at 01:24. A SUV was traveling southbound on Jacksonboro Road when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The SUV was found approximately 50 feet off of the roadway in the woods with heavy damage. The driver was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the women at the scene and used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate her from the SUV. Click here for additional information. |

21/June/2023 - SCEMD Drill Fire-Rescue spent the morning with SCEMD officials reviewing plans and procedures for this year's hurricane season. When a hurricane is threatening the area, SCEMD personnel from the upstate are deployed along the coast and work in various Emergency Operations Centers (EOC's), including Colleton's. They help with information distribution and assist with coordinating resource requests that cannot be filled locally. During the meeting, Fire-Rescue officials reviewed the department's resource request platform and discussed EOC operations during emergencies and disasters. |

20/June/2023 - Gene Whetsell Bridge Dedication The State of SC and Colleton County held a Dedication Ceremony to name the Ashepoo River Bridge on ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy 17) in honor of County Councilman W. Gene Whetsell for his decades of honorable service to Colleton County. The event was well attended by over 200 people, many of whom were friends or family. Many local and state dignitaries, including Senator Margie Bright Matthews, Senator Campsen, Representative Robby Robbins, Highway Commissioner Barnwell Fishburne and County Councilman Dr. Joseph Flowers spoke of Mr. Whetsell's many accomplishments. 19/June/2023 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment and Ejection - "B" Shift A Ridgeville man was killed and a Walterboro woman was critically injured in a two car MVC at the intersection of Round O Road and Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) Monday evening 19-June at 21:42. A Ford Crown Victoria from Round O Road collided with a Chevrolet Suburban on Augusta Hwy. causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The cars then entered the ditch and struck several trees. None of the occupants in either vehicle were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Ford was deceased and trapped in the wreckage. 19/June/2023 - Structure Fire with Injuries - "A" & "B" Shifts A Green Pond Community home was destroyed and the occupant was injured in an early morning fire at 495 Weiss Lane Monday morning 19-June at 05:51. The adult male occupant advised he was awakened by the sound of breaking glass and discovered the older two story wooden structure was on fire. The man was barely able to exit the burning home. The house was well involved but he attempted to reenter the residence to rescue his 28 year old speaking parrot. The flames and smoke prevented him from reaching the bird and the man suffered smoke inhalation and second degree burns. The parrot perished in the fire. Click here for additional information. |

17-June-2023 - Fire Safe Community Designation Fire-Rescue was again awarded the Fire Safe Community Designation by the Fire Safe South Carolina through the SC Fire Marshal's Office. The County Fire-Rescue Department was recognized for its efforts in 2022 to develop a community risk reduction plan for the Colleton County Fire District. Communities designated under the program continuously work to reduce fire related injuries and property damage in our state, thus decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters. 17-June-2023 - Juneteenth Festivities Fire-Rescue, along with other local Emergency Services, participated in the Juneteenth Festivities in Walterboro Saturday 17-June. Several units were in the parade which traveled north on Jefferies Blvd at 10:00. Following the parade, a festival was held at the old Walterboro High School football stadium property. 15/June/2023 - Camper Fire - "A" Shift A camper, used as a residence, suffered heavy damage in a late afternoon fire on Thursday 15-June at 20:09. The incident occurred in the 2600 block of Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63), approximately 1 mile west of Walterboro. Engine 1 arrived to find the camper well involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the camper and cut a hole in the side to access the fire. The camper suffered substantial damage. It appeared the fire may have spread from an unattended debris pile fire near the camper. Click here for additional information. |

11/June/2023 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift Fire-Rescue responded to a single vehicle, high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker northbound, Sunday afternoon 11-June at 16:10. The accident occurred during a severe thunderstorm and was one of a dozen MVCs that happened during a five hour period Sunday afternoon. Three people were injured, one severely. Medic 1 and Medic 26 responded and treated all of the patients at the scene. One rear seat passenger was sitting in the area which struck a large pine tree. He suffered a head injury. No medical helicopters could fly due to the poor weather conditions. Click here for additional information. |

05/June/2023 - MVC with Entrapment Mutual Aid to Hampton County -
"B" Shift At 05:25 Hampton County requested assistance with a two vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 near the 39 mile marker NB in Hampton County. Colleton Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 118 responded. Hampton County Fire-Rescue and EMS were already on the scene. Northbound I-95 was blocked, so Colleton units responded 3 miles southbound in the northbound lanes to reach the scene which goes through the Salkehatchie Swamp. Two patients in a black minivan were trapped and critically injured. Click here for additional information. |

04/June/2023 - High Speed MVC - "B" Shift A 74 year old Florida man was severely injured in a single vehicle MVC on Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker NB Sunday afternoon 04-June at 16:09. The northbound Dodge Ram pickup truck left the Interstate at highway speed and entered the wooden median. The pickup truck struck two large trees causing extensive damage to the truck. The driver was wearing a seatbelt but suffered multiple traumatic injuries including a head injury. Other motorists stopped to render aid and found the man unconscious in the truck. 03/June/23 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift At 00:26, on Saturday morning 03-June, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire in the 600 block of Ruffin Road at the intersection of Jones Swamp Road. Engine 26 arrived to find a two story wood frame structure well involved with flames consuming the roof. Firefighter-Paramedics verified there were no occupants in the building and used a deck gun to knock down the flames. Crews then deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the fire. Crews stopped the spread of the fire, however the second story collapsed into the first story causing heavy damage to the building. Click here for additional information. |
