03/31/2012 – Jacksonboro Parade

Engine 2, Engine 12, Brush 2 and Medic 6 participated in the Jacksonboro Spring Festival Parade Saturday morning 31-March. The parade started at Hope Plantation Lane and Drew Lane,  ending almost one mile away at the Jacksonboro Community Center. A festival was held at the center following the parade. Engine 2 and Brush 2 remained for the festival displaying the apparatus for the children, discussing fire prevention and handing out plastic fire helmets. Click here for more information.

 

03/31/2012 – Fatal MVC – “B” Shift

An 18 year old Colleton County High School Senior lost his life in an early morning MVC east of Islandton Saturday morning 31-March. The accident was reported at 04:37 after the 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant left the roadway and struck a large pine tree in front of 12131 Snider Highway (SC Hwy63). The noise woke  the resident who called 9-1-1 and attempted to assist the injured driver. Click here for additional information.

 

3/27/2012 – Tactical Response Team Training

The training division conducted one of the quarterly Tactical Response Team training sessions on Tuesday, March 27, 2012.  Two training sessions occurred, one at 09:00 and one at 18:00.  The topic of the training was Confined Space Rescue.  Personnel reviewed confined space directives and then conducted an exercise involving an actual confined space... click here for additional information.

 

03/25/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift                  

A pot left cooking on the stove resulted in a fire that heavily damaged a residence at 1042 Creekside Lane near the Pleasant Grove Community. The fire was reported at 22:34 by a neighbor who saw flames coming from the roof. Engine 19 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions and fire coming through the roof in the rear of the doublewide mobile home. Click here for additional information. 

 

03/25/2012 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

An alert Sheriff’s Deputy discovered smoke coming from a residence Sunday morning 25-March. At 02:28, Deputy Koger was patrolling the Green Park Subdivision when he saw smoke in the area of Gadsden Loop and June Street. Heavy thunderstorms with lightning had just passed through Colleton County. Koger searched the area and found smoke coming from the roof of the home at 205 Gadsden Loop. Click here for more info.

 

03/24/2012 – MVC with Air Evacuation – “B” Shift

An ATV accident has left an adult male in critical condition. The man was found lying unconscious in the roadway near 1521 Paradise Road at 19:08 Saturday evening 24-March. There were no witnesses to the accident. Engine 29 and Medic 18 arrived to find the man face down in the roadway, unresponsive. They quickly immobilized the man and requested a medical helicopter to respond to the remote rural area. Click here for more info.

 

24-March-2012 - Carolina Children's Charity Fundraiser

All three shifts and volunteer firefighters participated in collecting money at Wal-Mart Friday, Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the annual Carolina Children’s Charity Telethon on Channel 2. The organization was created by several Lowcountry Firefighters in an effort to assist families with medical care for children with specific illnesses. Click here for additional information.

 

24-March-2012 – Softball Tournament  

A Public Safety Softball Tournament was held in Colleton County, Saturday 24-March at the Recreation Complex. Six teams competed in the day-long event to raise money for the Carolina Children’s Charity and Burn Children’s Foundation. The event raised $1200 which was divided between to the charities. 23 and 24 March - Safe Kids Fair – “A” and “B” shifts

The annual Safe Kids Safety Fair was held at the National Guard Armory Friday and Saturday from 09:00 to 13:00. All third grade students were brought to the fair on Friday morning to rotate through the exhibits. The event is sponsored by the Safe Kids Coalition from Colleton Medical Center. 03/18/2012 – Double Shooting Incident -  “A” Shift

According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, at 01:52 Sunday morning 18-March, the 9-1-1 Communications Center received a call from a security officer working at Club Manhattan located at 2922 Ritter Road in the Catholic Hill Community requesting assistance with several individuals who were causing a disturbance. 03/18/2012 – MVC with Technical Rescue – “B” Shift

A single vehicle accident in the 100 block of Loblolly Lane proved to be challenging for rescuers, Sunday afternoon 18-March. The accident was reported at 18:19, advising a small SUV had crashed into a ditch, trapping a woman inside. Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle in the ditch with the frontend unsupported in the air. Click here for additional information.

 

03/17/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

An early morning fire destroyed a work shop located at 303 White Pine Ave. The caller to 9-1-1 reported the building fire at 06:14, Saturday 17-March. Engine 1 arrived at the dead end road to find the building well involved. The roof had already collapsed. Two 1-3/4 handlines were deployed to the building. 03/16/2010 – Air Pack Delivery

Fire-Rescue took delivery of 300 new Scott NXG7 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and over 650, 4500 psi composite cylinders over the last week. The 1.9 million dollar investment marks a great safety initiative by the County to provide firefighters with improved SCBA, accountability and standardization. 03/16/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

An electrical short is to blame for a fire in the ceiling of a doublewide mobile home located at 342 Chris Lane near Ritter Friday afternoon, 16-March. The fire was reported at 11:49 when smoke was spotted coming from the roof vents. Fire-Rescue units arrived approximately five minutes later to find light smoke coming from the roof vents and eaves. 03/16/2012 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

An early morning house fire has displaced a Smoaks family. At 03:24, Fire-Rescue was notified of the fire in a home located at 14066 Mount Carmel Road. Engine 7 arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the doublewide mobile home. A 2-1/2” and two 1-3/4” handlines were deployed to the building which was approximately 40% involved.  Click here for additional information.

 

3/13/2012-
CCFR will be offering an in-house trench rescue course on May 1st and 3rd from 1800-2200 and May 5th and 6th from 0830-1700 (24 hours total course time).  The course is available only to CCFR personnel and only a limited number of slots remain. Interested persons should contact the training division (538-6849) and will be signed up on a first come first served basis.

03/10/2012 - MVC with Air Evacuation - "C" Shift

A single vehicle MVC occurred on a very remote stretch of Parkers Ferry Road Saturday evening 10-March. The accident was reported at 20:20 advising of an over-turned vehicle with a person ejected. The dirt road is 12 miles long, located in an isolated area, that runs through Westvaco tree farms between Cottageville and Jacksonboro. Click here for additional information.

 

03/05/2012 – Stabbing Incident – “A” Shift          

An adult male received multiple, non-life threatening stab wounds during an altercation at a nightclub located at 1008 Proctor Street Monday evening 05-March at 21:40. Medic 1 found the patient ambulatory in the parking lot with eight wounds to his chest and arms. The patient was stable. He was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported to Colleton Medical Center. Click here for more information.

 

3/6/2012-
This is a reminder that annual physicals are being performed this week and next week at various stations throughout the county. Personnel were given an appointment during recent OSHA Training. Please refer to your appointment and be on time. The physical is performed in two segments. The blood draw is performed in the morning after the personnel have fasted during the previous evening. The physical is given in the evenings. All personnel will be given a TB test which must be read within three days of the administration.

03/04/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

A mobile home received moderate damage from an electrical fire Sunday evening 04-March at 23:28. Engine 19 was dispatched to the area on a smoke investigation in the area of Gadsden Loop  and Peurifoy Road, after a neighbor reported heavy smoke in the neighborhood. A Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol, found a singlewide mobile home one block away at 41 Raleigh Street with light smoke coming from the building. Click here for more info.

03/02/2012 – Dr. Seuss Reading at Forest Hills Elementary School

Fire-Rescue participated in reading Dr. Seuss books to students at Forest Hills Elementary School Friday morning 2-March at 09:30. It was in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Several local authorities were invited to read to the students, including Clerk of Court Pat Grant, Councilman Smalls, Mayor Young and Public Safety Officer Ricky Valentine.
