30/May/2015 MVC with Ejection B shift
Two people were injured, one critically, after a single vehicle MVC
on Possum Corner Road at See See Road Saturday morning 30-May. The
incident was reported at 06:15. Fire-Rescue Medic 6 arrived to find
a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with massive damage across the
road. The southbound pickup truck left the roadway in a curve at a
high rate of speed and struck several large pine trees. Click

Our condolences to Battalion Chief Richard Sheffield on the death of his
grandfather, Henry Cummings. A drop-in visitation will be held
tomorrow at 15:00 at 21956 Lowcountry Hwy, Ruffin, SC. Graveside
services will be held Saturday at 11:00 at Glendale Cemetery on Mount Carmel
Road. Please keep Battalion Chief Sheffield and his family in your
prayers. |

We offer condolences to Firefighter Explorer Jim Bailey and his family on
the death of his Grandfather Keith Bailey. Funeral services will be held at
First Presbyterian Church in Union, SC and a visitation will be held at the

27/May/2015 MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac
C Shift
An adult male suffered multiple traumatic injuries in a two vehicle
MVC at the intersection of McLeod Road and Pleasant Grove Road
Wednesday afternoon 27-May at 11:50. A full sized pickup truck and a
delivery van collided in the intersection. The pickup truck then
went off of the roadway into the woods. Firefighter-Paramedics found
the man semi-conscious and trapped in the wreckage. Click

27/May/2015 Structure Fire with injuries
B Shift
A 43 year old man was severely injured in a structure fire at 71
Overlook Lane west of Walterboro Wednesday morning 27-May. At 02:27,
Fire-Rescue was notified of the incident with the caller reporting
flames were already burning through the roof. Deputy Chief Greene
arrived two minutes later to find a well involved single story brick
veneer structure approximately 45% involved. Click

We wish to offer condolences to Engineer-EMT-I Chuck Moyer and his family.
Chucks father, Charlie Rudd, passed away this weekend. He was 90 years old.
Funeral services will be held in Florida. Please remember the Moyer family

26/May/2015 Mutual Aid Structure Fire B
shift
Colleton Firefighters responded as mutual aid for
Dorchester County Fire-Rescue Tuesday evening 26-May at 18:47.
Dorchester requested several Tenders to assist with a structure fire
at 118 Fowler Lane near the Edisto River. Colleton sent personnel
and three Tenders, participating in firefighting operations as well

24/May/2015 Burn Patient with Air Evac C
Shift
A two year old girl suffered third degree burns to her feet in an
accident off of Camp Buddy Road Sunday afternoon 24-May at 12:04.
The childs mother reported some family members had been camping the
previous night and she returned to the location Sunday morning. The
child was playing with other children when she accidently ran
through hot coals left from a camp fire the night before. The mother
drove the girl toward Walterboro and met Medic 19 on Cottageville
Highway (US Hwy 17-A) near Featherbed Road. Click

24/May/2015 Structure Fire B Shift
A mobile home was destroyed in an early morning fire at 41 Turtle
Court Sunday 24-May. At 05:45 the incident was reported to 9-1-1.
Engine 9 arrived to find the doublewide mobile home fully involved.
The roof and most of the walls had already burned away.
Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the
fire. The remaining wall studs collapsed shortly after crews
arrived. The home was located on a rural dead end street near the
Edisto River about five miles east of Cottageville. Click

23/May/2015 High Speed MVC B Shift
A 70 year old man narrowly missed being struck by a vehicle Saturday
morning 23-May at Tobys Bluff Bait and Tackle Shop in Islandton. At
11:04, the man was performing yard work around the exterior of the
building located at 17600 Sniders Hwy, when a Mercury Monarch
attempted to turn on to Dopson Road from Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) at
a high rate of speed. The man heard the tires squealing as the car

22/May/2015 Structure Fire A Shift
A passing motorist reported a home burning Friday evening 22-May at
3541 Azalea Patch Road. At 22:15, the first caller to 9-1-1 advised
the home was well involved with flames coming through the roof.
Firefighters arrived minutes later to find the ranch style home
approximately 80 percent involved and most of the roof had already
collapsed. A large workshop behind the home was being threatened.

21-May-2015 School Bus vs Car MVC C Shift
A loaded school bus and a small pick-up truck collided head-on near
the intersection of Rehoboth Road (SC Hwy 651) and Addison Road
Thursday afternoon 21-May at 16:01. Fire-Rescue responded with two
Engines, three Ambulances and one First Paramedic Response vehicle.
The roadway in the vicinity of the accident was blocked due to the
accident. There were over thirty students on the bus, but only seven
complained of minor, non-life threatening injuries. Click

18-23 May Annual Pumper Testing
Our Logistics Division with the help of several off-duty personnel
conducted annual pumper testing the week of 18 May through 23 May.
The crew began at 07:00 each day running nearly until dark. They
relocated and/or transported 43 Engines, Quints and the ARFF during
the week. All units passed with only a few adjustments required by
Fleet Management. Asst. Chief Stallings grilled out for those
assisting each day so they did not have to leave the test pit. Click

20 & 22 May - EMS Week Luncheons
Colleton Medical Center and their staff provided a full course
luncheon in honor of Pre-hospital Emergency Medical providers in
conjunction with National EMS Week, Wednesday 20-May. Fire-Rescue,
LifeNet, surrounding county EMS Departments, several private
ambulance providers, Hospital Staff and Doctors attended. The
Hospital Emergency Department Director, Christy Judy, coordinated
the event which was held on the hospital grounds. Click

19/May/2015 MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac
A Shift
Two people were injured in a high speed single car MVC in the 4900
block of Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) near Nursery Lane Tuesday
afternoon 19-May at 13:55. The northbound Explorer left the roadway,
then struck a ditch bank on the southbound side of the road. The car
began to flip over, but struck a tree crushing the roof and trapping

19/May/2015 MVC with Entrapment A Shift
A 20 year old female was transported to Colleton Medical Center
after her car was struck in the drivers side by a tractor trailer
causing heavy damage. The accident occurred at the intersection of
Bells Hwy and Mt. Carmel Road Tuesday morning 19-May at 11:57. The
patient suffered non-life threatening injuries, but was unable to
exit the vehicle due to the damage. Click

16/May/2015 High Speed MVC A Shift
A single car high speed MVC on I-95 sent one man to Colleton Medical
Center and snarled northbound traffic for approximately 45 minutes
Saturday evening 16-May. At 19:52, an older model Oldsmobile
Silhouette left the highway at a high rate of speed and struck a
large tree near the 44 mile marker northbound. The minivan became
airborne until it slammed into several other trees 15 feet off the

15/May/2014 Relay for Life
Fire-Rescue provided emergency medical coverage and operated the
concessions stand for Relay for Life again this year. All proceeds
were donated to the organization to help fight cancer. Paula Jacques
coordinated the event and was assisted by many firefighters, their
families and friends. Crews set up Friday morning, after a month of
preparation, to begin cooking burgers, hot dogs and fries to serve
the crowds who arrived later in the morning.

13/May/2015 Shooting Incident A Shift
Fire-Rescue and Law Enforcement Officers were sent to 404 Whitsell
Street, Lincoln Apartments at 21:11 Wednesday evening 13-May for a
shooting incident. The 26 year old male patient was found on the
ground near the 800 building. He suffered GSWs to the abdomen. Medic
6 has just cleared from the ED and was less than a mile from the
scene when the shooting occurred. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly
treated the man while a medical helicopter was placed on standby.

13/May/2015 Structure Fire A Shift
At 17:41 Wednesday afternoon 13-May, 9-1-1 Operators began receiving
multiple reports of heavy smoke in the 4700 block of Sniders
Highway. One caller reported several vehicles on fire behind 4888
Sniders Highway. Responding personnel could see a thick column of
black smoke four miles from the scene. Engine 19 arrived and was
directed down a narrow dirt driveway and then across a field before
reaching a path through a wooded area. Click

EMS Week takes place next week. Colleton Medical Center and LifeNet are both
holding functions to honor the pre-hospital responders in our community.
Wednesday 20-May from 11:00 to 14:00, Colleton Medical Center will prepare
lunch for our personnel. On-duty crews will rotate through to enjoy the
meal. Volunteer and off-duty personnel are encouraged to also stop by and
have lunch. Friday 22-May from 10:00 to 14:00, LifeNet
will also prepare lunch and conduct a Landing Zone class. This function will
also be held at Colleton Medical Center (501 Robertson Blvd in Walterboro).
We will rotate on-duty crews through for the meal. Volunteer personnel and
off-duty personnel are encouraged to stop by and have lunch.
Both
agencies will have an abundance of food in your honor, so please show them
your appreciation. |

11/May/2015 MVC with Entrapment B Shift
A 67 year old Round O woman suffered multiple, non-life threatening
traumatic injuries after her car over-turned in the 8400 block of
Round O Road Monday morning 11-May at 08:52. Apparently, the
northbound 2013 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway and struck a tree
about one block north of Bodison Memorial Drive. The car then
over-turned and came to rest on the drivers side in the southbound

05/08/2015- We wish to congratulate Captain Brian Rowe and his family on the
birth of Brians second grandchild. Jackson Thomas Rowe was born 04-May. He was
21.5 inches long and weighed 10 pounds, 9 ounces. Alex and JT are both doing

08/May/2015 Structure Fire B Shift
An afternoon fire destroyed a singlewide mobile home and damaged a
nearby storage building at 51 Ward Street Friday 08-May at 12:23.
Engine 19 arrived to find the residence approximately 85% involved.
Most of the building had already collapsed prior to Fire-Rescues
arrival. Engine 19 used a deck gun to extinguish most of the fire
and mopped up with one 1-3/4 handline. A nearby yard debris fire was
extinguished with the booster line. Click

A Wesley Grove home was heavily damaged in a late night fire Tuesday
05-May. At 23:32, Fire-Rescue was notified of a home at 1950 Wesley
Grove Road with flames coming from the windows and roof.
Firefighters arrived within six minutes to find the single story
brick veneer residence approximately 75% involved. The roof on one
end of the structure had already collapsed. A truck, tractor and a

05/May/2015 Fatal MVC with entrapment A
Shift
An adult male died from injuries he received in a three vehicle
collision on I-95 near the 61 mile marker southbound. The accident
occurred Tuesday morning 05-May at 05:34 when a Penske Box Style
Truck lost control and flipped on its side. Two occupants kicked out
a portion of the windshield and exited the vehicle. They then
assisted a third person out through an elevated cab door. Click

the new arrival of Joseph Reid Campbell, who was born at 12:08
Monday 04-May. Little Joseph was 20.25 inches long and weighed 6
pounds, 13 ounces. Everyone is doing fine. |
