22/November/2024 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "B" Shift Three men were shot, one fatally, during an altercation at the Walterboro Family Bowl, 226 Wichman Street Friday evening 22-November at 23:02. Responders were dispatched to the location on the report of a person shot. Law Enforcement Officers from the City of Walterboro and the Sheriff's Office arrived quickly and found three people with gunshot wounds. Two additional Fire-Rescue ambulances were assigned to the incident. Battalion 1 was the first arriving Paramedic unit and began triaging the patients. One man suffered fatal injuries and one man was critically injured. Click here for additional information. |

21/November/2024 - Blankets for Veterans We offer a huge thanks to Fire-Rescue CERT Member "Chippie" McLaughlin for distributing blankets to Fire-Rescue members that are also veterans of the United States Military. Each blanket was made by hand and she has created 25 blankets so far. Chippie began personally delivering them the week of Veteran's Day. Pictured here is the blanket delivered to Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Biering, who served in the United States Marine Corps. |

18/November/2024 - Head on Collision with Air Evac -
"A" Shift A St. George man was critically injured in a head-on collision on Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) near Mars Old Field Road Monday evening 18-November at 17:34. His Kia Soul collided with a full-sized Dodge pickup truck, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The Soul then went down an embankment and overturned. Bystanders pulled the injured man from the small car. He was semi conscious and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. Click here for additional information. |

17/November/2024 - Drowning Incident - "B" Shift Fire-Rescue responded to a residence in the 200 block of Whetsel Street for a report of an unconscious child found in a swimming pool at 07:28, Sunday morning 17-November. Sadly it turned out to be an 8 yr old, autistic boy who had been reported missing about 10 minutes earlier from a residence on Springwood Dr a few blocks away. The man who discovered the boy pulled him from the water, had his wife call 9-1-1 and immediately began performing CPR. Walterboro Police Officers and Sheriff's Deputies were already in the area looking for the missing child and arrived very quickly. Click here for additional information. |

16/November/2024 - Train the Trainer On November 15th and 16th, 2024, 26 members from within Colleton County Fire-Rescue attended a one day in-house Live Fire Staff Train the Trainer Program led by our Training Division. This class meets the National Standards and consisted of a classroom session, field exercises and covered the different potions required to be staffed by the standard to conduct Live Fire Training. All members participated in a live fire demonstration of the fuel package. Click here for additional information. |

13/November/2024 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift A three vehicle MVC Wednesday evening 13-November resulted in an adult male being critically injured and flown to a Trauma Center. At 20:39, on a dark rural section of Cooks Hill Road, a northbound Trailblazer collided with a stopped, disabled vehicle in the roadway. An adult male was attempting to make repairs to the car and a family member had a pickup truck parked in front of the disabled car. Apparently, when the Trailblazer struck the rear of the disabled Genesis, the impact pushed it into the pickup truck, crushing the man between the vehicles. Click here for additional information. |

13/November/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift Three people were injured and one was trapped in a high speed single vehicle MVC on Azalea Patch Road near Sniders Hwy, Wednesday evening 13-Nov at 18:29. The small passenger car left the roadway and entered a water filled ditch. The adult male driver received non-life threatening injuries, but had multiple complaints and could not exit the vehicle. An adult female and a small child also received non-life threatening injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated all three patients at the scene. Click here for additional information. |

10/November/2024 - Flooding Event The flooding along the Edisto River continued over the Veteran's Day holiday affecting residents from Whetstones Crossroads south to Givhans Ferry. Record setting water levels continued through Sunday up to Stokes Bridge / Sidneys Road with residents advising water levels were 1-1/2 feet higher than the recent floods related to Hurricane Debby. Many residents evacuated the area as well as the Bee City Zoo in an effort to protect the animals. Fortunately, water began to back up into the four holes swamp. 10/November/2024 - Veterans Day Parade Fire-Rescue joined many agencies in honoring our country's veterans at the annual Veteran's Day Parade in Walterboro Sunday 10-November at 15:00. Engine 1, Engine 27, Medic 1 and Car 114 participated in the event. The route followed Hampton St, to Jefferies to Washington Street. Dr. Joseph Flowers was the Grand Marshal. This was the largest Veterans Day Parade held in the community. Click here for additional information. |

09/November/2024 - Explorer Post Anniversary Fire-Rescue's Explorer Post celebrated its 17th anniversary with a lunch and game of kick ball. at Station # 19 Saturday afternoon 09-November. Battalion Chiefs Feather and Dalton prepared hamburgers and hot dogs for the youth members. After lunch, the adult trainers challenged the Explorers to a game of kickball. The game was held in the training grounds behind Station # 19. Each side played hard, but the adults won a victory for the second year. Everyone had a great time. 08/November/2024 - Structure Fire with Injuries -
"C" Shift An elderly man was transported to the Burn Center at MUSC after suffering second and third degree burns. The report of the fire was received at 9-1-1 at 10:21, Friday morning 08-November, reporting the structure fire and the injured man. Engine 9 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home already collapsed and the injured man sitting in the yard. The man advised the home, located on a dead end isolated dirt road, had burned down one or two days ago. Click here for additional information. |

06-13/November/2024 - Flooding Event On 06 and 07 November, Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties, north of Colleton, were inundated with heavy rains, receiving 12-14 inches over a few hours. The rains caused widespread damage resulting in 150 roads damaged, road closures, including portions of I-26, several dam failures and many heavily flooding communities including the City of Orangeburg. The North Fork Edisto River gauge set a new record of 15.34 feet, the highest recorded since 1928. The Edisto River gauge at Whetstones Crossroads also set a new high record of 10.64 feet. Orangeburg County requested mutual aid from several counties due to blocked roadways. Click here for additional information. |

06/November/2024 - MVC with entrapment - "A" Shift A single vehicle MVC sent one patient to Colleton Medical Center Wednesday afternoon at 12:33. During a light rain, a pickup truck left Bells Hwy (SC Hwy 64) at Stokes Road, went down an embankment and overturned. The adult female driver was trapped in the truck, with non-life threatening injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro struts and cribbing to stabilize the vehicle, then removed the rear glass and windshield to reach the patient. She was treated inside the overturned car, before being extricated on a LSB and carried up the embankment. Fire-Rescue Medic 26 transported her to Colleton Medical Center. 06/November/2024 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac - "A" Shift At 10:15 Wednesday morning 06-November, a southbound passenger car struck the rear of another southbound vehicle in approximately the 700 block of Ivanhoe Road. The car lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree, trapping the female driver. The woman was found semi conscious in the car. She was treated by Firefighter-Paramedics while other crew members used Homatro Pentheon rescue tools to extricate the victim. She suffered a possible head injury. 03/November/2024 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift An adult male was critically injured in a shooting incident that took place at the Rodeway Inn, 97 Ladson Street, Sunday morning 03-November at 10:09. The man fled the scene and ran to the nearby Fireworks Superstore at 1289 Sniders Hwy to seek help. The store attendant called 9-1-1. Walterboro City Police officers were working another incident in the area and heard the gunshots. They arrived within minutes. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man in the parking lot of the Fireworks store and placed a medical helicopter on standby. Click here for more information. |
