20/February/2023 - Woods and Structure Fire - "C" Shift

An unattended trash fire spread to burn several acres, damage a doublewide mobile home, an outside storage building and several other items Monday afternoon 20-February.The fire occurred in the 200 block of Lafayette Lane. At 14:29, 9-1-1 received several reports of the fire. Engine 19 arrived to find the porch of a mobile home on fire and vinyl siding melting. The underpinning had burned away. The fire had spread onto several different properties, damaging an outside storage building and several items in the yards. Click here for additional information.
20/February/2023 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift

Four people were transported to area Trauma Centers following a two vehicle high speed MVC on Bells Hwy. (SC Hwy 64) at the intersection of Doctor's Creek Road Monday afternoon 20-February at 14:21. Both vehicles were traveling west bound when they collided and slid off into the ditch. A six year old male was unresponsive. He was treated at the scene, then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the Shawn Jenkins Children's Trauma Center at MUSC. Click here for more information.
18/February/2023 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "C" Shift

01:40, an adult male was shot at the Waffle House located at 1646 Bells Hwy. in Walterboro. 9-1-1 received reports of the shooting indicating two people were injured. Arriving officers advised of only one person who was shot. Firefighter-Paramedics found one adult male lying near the doorway inside the restaurant. The victim received multiple wounds and was not breathing. Crews began resuscitative efforts and transported the man emergent to Colleton Medical Center in Fire-Rescue Medic 26. 16/February/2023 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "B" Shift

A 15 year old male was shot and killed in an incident in the 100 block of Steeplechase Drive Thursday evening 16-February at 18:49. Sheriff's Deputies arrived and located the unresponsive victim. The Deputies began CPR on the victim. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived and continued resuscitative efforts. Fire-Rescue Medic 19 transported the victim emergent to Colleton Medical Center with five additional Firefighter-Paramedics onboard to assist with his care. Click here for additional information.

We offer condolences to Captain Bryan Eadon and his family on the passing of his grandfather Sherod "Hampie" Hampton Eadon, Sr. who died Tuesday 14-February at home. He was 93 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11:00, Thursday 16-February at Memorial Baptist Church in St. George. Burial will be held at the St. George Cemetery. Please remember the Eadon family in your prayers.

14/February/2023 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift

An adult female was shot in the chest at the Dollar General in Jacksonboro, 16483 ACE Basin Parkway Tuesday evening 14-February. At 19:02, 9-1-1 received several reports of what was thought to be an accidental shooting in the park lot of the store. Sheriff's Deputies secured the scene and Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman at the scene. She was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 6 to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. 11 & 12/February/2023 - Farm Rescue Class

Fire-Rescue hosted a farm rescue class at Forks Road Farms in Islandton Saturday & Sunday 11-12 February. The comprehensive course taught responders about farm equipment, farm animals, farm implement operations and rescue techniques related to farming equipment. Crews learned about grain bin extrication and the many challenges associated with farming equipment. The owners of the farm provided space for the classroom sessions, as well as the use of their equipment. They also provided lunch for the students both days. Click here for more information.
08/February/2023 - Water Rescue Training - "C" Shift

Firefighters spent most of the day Wednesday 08-February training on the Edisto River. Crews used the Department's Skiff and both Inflatables to practice rescue operations on the river. The water levels are elevated this time of year and the current is swifter than normal, providing real life hazards for the responders to work in. Firefighters practiced pulling simulated victims from the water, rescuing individuals from the trees and snags as well as maneuvering the watercraft in the swift water. 07/February/2023 - Shooting Incident - "B" Shift

An adult male received a non-life threatening gunshot wound Tuesday evening 07-February. The incident was reported at 19:29 in the 200 block of Wilkey Street. Someone reportedly fired several shots into a residence striking the man. He was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. County Councilman Phillip Taylor also responded to the scene. Click here for additional information.
07/February/2023 - Fatal Auto Pedestrian MVC - "B" Shift

An adult male received critical injuries after he was struck by a passenger car in the 500 block of Robertson Blvd. in front of Colleton Medical Center Tuesday evening 07-February at 19:14. The driver of the car was very upset, but was not injured. A young man was on the scene providing care when responders and several hospital employees arrived to treat the man.  Click here for additional information.
07/February/2023 - "Chief Barry McRoy Day"

Colleton County Council recently recognized Chief Barry McRoy for his service and dedication to the community.  By proclamation, March 20, 2023 will be officially known as "Chief Barry McRoy Day'' in Colleton County. Chief McRoy has faithfully served this community since 1991 and is a true firefighters' Chief. Chief McRoy is "unofficially" the most active member in our department. He is known to be at his desk one minute and zipping out the door to respond to a call for service the next minute.  Click here for additional information.
06/February/2023 - MVC with Air Evac - "A" Shift

A two vehicle high speed MVC sent three people to a Trauma Center and two people to Colleton Medical Center Monday evening 06-February. At 19:12, two small cars collided at the intersection of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) and the SB Exit Ramp from I-95. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage with one car having nearly 12 inches of intrusion into the passenger space. Five patients were injured. 06/February/2023 - High Speed MVC - "A" Shift

Two people were transported to a Trauma Center following a three vehicle, high speed MVC on I-95 near the 42 mile marker southbound, Monday afternoon 06-February at 15:58. A southbound Jeep Renegade left the roadway at highway speed and struck several trees in the median. The Jeep suffered heavy damage and overturned. The motor was ejected from the vehicle and struck a southbound Ford Expedition causing extensive damage to the Ford. A third vehicle was also involved but received only minor damage. 06/February/2023 - Storage Building Fire - "A" Shift

A large storage building was destroyed at 153 Cone Ct in Cottageville Monday morning 06-Feb. At 07:30, a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report the fire. The caller advised the building was well involved. Engine 9 arrived to find the building had already collapsed. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to extinguish the fire. Crews were on the scene for two hours performing overhaul. 04/February/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift

A Walterboro man was critically injured in a single car MVC in the 400 block of Bedon Road Saturday afternoon 04-February at 18:39. The northbound Hyundai Sonata was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it failed to negotiate a curve and entered the southbound ditch. The car traveled in the ditch until it struck a driveway culvert, became airborne and struck a large pine tree approximately four feet off of the ground. The car then landed in the middle of the road, overturned twice and flipped over in the northbound ditch. The unrestrained driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the car.
