29/June/2024 - MVC with entrapment & Air Evac - "C" Shift

An adult male was critically injured in a single vehicle MVC in the 4000 block of White Hall Road Saturday afternoon 29-June at 15:25. The northbound vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees. The driver was found unconscious and trapped in the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the patient at the scene. They used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the passenger side door to access the man. A medical helicopter was requested. Click here for additional information.
27/June/2024 - Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Escort

Fire-Rescue had the privilege, with several other agencies, to escort the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall from I-95 to the Veterans Victory House on Sidneys Road. Fire units, the Sheriff's Office, Walterboro Police Dept., the VFW and several Veterans Support Groups participated in the escort, which traveled through Walterboro and ended on the front lawn of the Victory House. 27/June/2024 - Business Preparedness Workshop

Fire-Rescue's Emergency Management Division and the Chamber of Commerce conducted a Business Preparedness Workshop at the Colleton Center on Hampton Street Thursday morning 27-June. The event was conducted to assist local businesses prepare for a disaster and the recovery phase of a disaster such as a hurricane. The room was full of attendees and speakers and lasted an hour. Representatives from the State Commerce Department, local Chamber of Commerce, Fire-Rescue, the insurance industry and Law Enforcement presented information. Click here for additional information.
24/June/2024 - High Speed MVC - "A" Shift

An adult male received multiple injuries after the semi truck he was driving left Interstate 95 at the McLeod overpass. The southbound truck and fuel trailer drove down the embankment, struck the guard rail, then crossed McLeod Road and struck the guardrail on the other side. The truck then drove up the south embankment. The truck received heavy damage. An off-duty Hendersville NC Firefighter also traveling on I-95 stopped to render aid to the man. 19/June/2024 - Station 20 Facelift

Station 20 on Edisto Island received some badly needed renovations over the last three weeks. The metal building is nearly 30 years old and the salt air environment at Edisto Beach has taken its toll on the structure. A local contractor removed the rusted exterior covering and replaced the doors and rusted support structures. The building looks new now. The construction crews did a great job working around the apparatus, so the station could remain operational during the construction. Click here for additional information.
19/June/2024 - 20 Acre Woods Fire - "B" Shift

Fire-Rescue responded to a 20 acre woods fire in the 1100 block of Brittlebank Road Wednesday afternoon 19-June at 13:47. A neighbor in the area reported someone burning near the intersection of Brittlebank Road and Peurifoy Road. Dry conditions and light winds caused the fire to rapidly spread threatening multiple homes and a church. The fire spread in a large wooded area between Brittlebank Road, Peurifoy Road and David Street. Station 19 units arrived to find fire threatening homes on Brittlebank Rd and moving west toward David Street. Click here for additional information.
19-June-2024 - Lieutenant Promotion

We congratulate Firefighter-Paramedic William Worrell on his promotion to Lieutenant. Lt. Worrell met all of the qualifications for the position and successfully completed testing.  We wish him well in his new position. 
18/June/2024 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift

A 23 yr old male was shot multiple times in the 300 block of Blanchard Street Tuesday evening 18-June. 9-1-1 received several calls concerning the incident reporting a man was shot and lying in the yard of a residence on the corner of Blanchard St. and Proctor Street. Walterboro Police and Sheriff's Deputies arrived quickly and secured the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man in the yard. A medical helicopter was not immediately available. Fire-Rescue Medic 1 transported the man emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in critical condition. Click here for addittional information.
15/June/2024 - Juneteenth Parade - "A" Shift

Fire-Rescue participated in the Juneteenth parade held in downtown Walterboro Saturday morning 15-June beginning at 10:00. The parade followed the same route as the Christmas parade from the Colleton Center, west on Hampton St to Jefferies and back east on Washington Street. The parade was the start of several activities that took place to commemorate the Juneteenth celebrations in Colleton County on Saturday. Click here for additional information.

14/June/2024 - 2023 Fire Safe Community Award

During the SC Firefighters Conference held in Myrtle Beach, Fire-Rescue was again awarded the Fire Safe Community Designation by the Fire Safe South Carolina  through the SC Fire Marshal's Office. This was the third year the Fire-Rescue Department was recognized for its efforts in community risk reduction. Through our Prevention Division,  the Fire Marshal's work to reduce fire related injuries and property damage decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters. 12/June/2024 - Near Drowning with Air Evac - "A" Shift

At 17:36, Medic 14, Medic 20, Edisto Beach Fire and Police Depts were dispatched to the 100 block of Palmetto Blvd for a person caught in a rip current. Medic 14 arrived a short time later to find the woman off shore. Medic 14 crewmembers, both marines, donned life vests and entered the ocean. They swam out to the woman and pulled her to shore. Shortly after returning her to the beach the woman stopped breathing. Firefighter-Paramedics successfully resuscitated her and requested the CARE Flight medical helicopter. 12/June/2024 - Medical Emergency with Air Evac - "A" Shift

An adult female suffered a critical medical emergency following a dometic event at a residence on Barnes Road near the Moselle Community Wednesday 12-June at 11:42. The woman was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics on Fire-Rescue Medic 18, then was transported emergent to the baseball field on Moselle Road in Islandton. The CARE Flight medical helicopter responded and flew the woman to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston for further care. Click here for additional information.
11/June/2024 - ATV Accident with Air Evac - "C" Shift

A nine year old male received multiple traumatic injuries in an ATV accident on Trantham Dr west of the Town of Smoaks, Tuesday afternoon 11-June at 16:53. He was not wearing a helmet. Firefighter-Paramedics responded to his home and treated him at the scene. A medical helicopter was requested and Fire-Rescue Medic 7 transported him emergent to a field at the intersection of Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21) and Sunrise Rd. (SC Hwy 217). The CARE Flight helicopter met the ambulance at the field. Click here for additional information.
11/June/2024 - Passing of Phillip

It is with sadness that we advise of the passing of Station 13's mascot Phillip. The feline took up residence at Station 13 approximately 3 years ago. The crew at Station # 13, built him a mockup of the Fire Station to live in in the parking lot in front of the Station. Phillip would often reside in the bay area during the day. "C" Shift discovered that Phillip had been struck by a car on Lowcountry Hwy and did not survive his injuries. Phillip was part of the Station # 13 family and will be missed. He was laid to rest in a clearing next to the Station. 
07/June/2024 - Fatal MVC - "B" Shift

An adult male died from injuries received in a two car collision at the intersection of Hampton St and Robertson Blvd., Friday afternoon 07-June at 18:11. The patient was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck that received heavy damage and ended up on Still Street east of the collision. The man was transported to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight medical helicopter. He was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center but sadly did not survive his injuries. 07/June/2024 - MVC with HazMat - "B" Shift

A three vehicle MVC sent two people to the hospital and closed the intersection of Bells Hwy. (SC Hwy 64) and Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) [Bells Crossroads] for 4-1/2 hours Friday afternoon 07-June at 14:56. A pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer with a passenger car pulled into the path of a northbound semi-truck. The semi-truck struck the trailer, flipping the towed vehicle on its side. The trailer and flipped car then struck a pickup truck that was stopped at the intersection. Click here for additional information.

04/June/2024 - MVC with Critical Injuries - "B" Shift

A two vehicle MVC on Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) just south of Academy Road sent two people to the hospital, one in critical condition. The accident occurred Tuesday morning 04-June at 08:21. Witnesses advised a northbound Honda Accord, turned into the path of a southbound Chevrolet pickup truck. The car spun around and then drove back across all five lanes of Jefferies Hwy before stopping in the woods on the northbound side of the highway. Click here for additional information.
04/June/2024 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

A single family dwelling was heavily damaged in a morning fire in the 100 block of Sheldon Court. Tuesday 04-June. The first 9-1-1 call was received at 01:29 reporting fire in a room and the roof. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find heavy fire conditions on the north end of the structure with a portion of the roof already collapsed. The sole occupant was awakened by smoke alarms provided and installed by County Firefighters a few years ago. He and two canines were able to escape the burning home unharmed. 01/June/2024 - Shooting Incident - "B" Shift

An 8 yr. old male received a critical gunshot wound in a reported driveby shooting incident Saturday evening 01-June. At 23:01, 9-1-1 received a report that a child had been shot in the 100 block of London Lane north of Walterboro. While enroute to the scene, a Deputy encountered a southbound car traveling a high rate of speed toward Walterboro. Battalion 1 was also responding in the same direction on Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) and the car flagged him down in the 2500 block near Southland Apartments.  Click here for additional information.
 
01/June/2024 - Overturned Vehicle - "B" Shift

An adult male was transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center after his Toyota RAV4 left the roadway and overturned Saturday afternoon 01-June at 17:17. The vehicle had been traveling southbound in the 9200 block of Jacksonboro Road south of Cottageville, when it failed to negotiate a curve. The small SUV went down a small embankment, struck several trees and flipped over. Two motorists stopped to assist the man. The driver received multiple traumatic injuries in the crash.
