31/October/2024 - Trunk-or-Treat Fire-Rescue, along with many local agencies participated in a Truck or Treat Event sponsored by Sheriff Buddy Hill at the Sheriff's Office on Mable T. Willis Blvd 31-October beginning at 17:00. Several thousand participants attended the event, many in costume. The children gathered bags of candy, treats and prizes. The Sheriff's Office cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for those in attendance. Fire-Rescue office staff and several CERT members worked in the Fire-Rescue booth. 30/October/2024 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A residential structure was heavily damaged in an evening fire Wednesday night 30-October at 22:01. While crews were working a business fire several miles away on Augusta Hwy, a family discovered their home was on fire in the 700 block of Mol Senia Ln in the Round O Community. The family smelled smoke and discovered flames burning in the roof above a utility room. Two adults and three children were able to safely exit the residence. Engine 9 cleared up from the Augusta Hwy fire and responded to the Mol Senia Lane fire. Click here for additional information. |

30/October/2024 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A 50x50 maintenance building was destroyed in an evening fire at 17857 Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61), Wednesday evening. At 20:41, 9-1-1 received several reports of the building being on fire. Engine 36 arrived to find the building had already collapsed. It was located well off of the roadway and the fire burned unnoticed for some time. The business performed repair work on appliances and had over 35 refrigerators and other units inside the building. Several hundred were located in the wooded area around the building. The fire spread into the nearby woods. Click here for additional information. |

30/October/2024 - Birth Annoucement Congratulations to Firefighter-AEMT Sabrina Fetty and her husband Nicholas on the birth of her first child. Stella Bea Fetty was born Oct 30, 2024, at 13:10 at Summerville Medical Center. She weighs 6lbs 5oz and is19 inches long. Mom and daughter are both doing great. |

24/October/2024 - Structure and Equipment Fire - "C" Shift An equipment fire spread to a building in an early morning incident at a business located at 36 Clearwater Drive Thursday morning 24-October at 08:25. Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to American Bio Mass, a non-hazardous waste disposal company, for a report of a trackhoe on fire possibly involving a shed. Battalion 1 observed a large column of black smoke a mile from the scene. Upon arrival, heavy black smoke was noted coming from the main building, a one story block building where the waste products are processed. A second alarm was requested. 23/October/2024 - Woods and Storage Building Fire - "B" Shift A debris pile fire got out of control and destroyed a 12x12 storage building as well as a portion of woods near the property, Wednesday evening 23-October at 19:09. Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the location for the report of a structure on fire. Engine 26 arrived to find the small storage building completely on the ground and the woods surrounding the building on fire. They cancelled other responding units. Firefighters deployed one handline to extinguish the fire. Click here for additional information. |

23/October/24 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift A 16 yr old tragically perished in a single vehicle MVC in the 100 block of Phillips Road Wednesday evening 23-October at 17:56. The Chrysler 300 was traveling south on Phillips Road when it left the roadway after a curve. The car over-corrected and entered the ditch where it struck a tree and overturned. The female driver was wearing a seatbelt, but suffered multiple traumatic injuries. She was trapped in the wreckage. Click here for additional information. |

23/October/2024 - Graham Retirement Colleton County Fire-Rescue's longest serving volunteer firefighter, John Graham of Station # 7 in Smoaks, has retired. Family and department members held a dinner in his honor Wednesday evening 23-October in Smoaks. Captain Graham has served continuously for 51 years. He was one of the founding members of the Town of Smoaks Volunteer Fire Department which was organized in 1972, when many rural areas were establishing fire departments to protect their communities. Smoaks was the seventh fire department organized in rural Colleton County and became District 7. Click here for additional information. |

23/October/2024 - PERL Luncheon - "B" Shift Fire-Rescue wishes to thank Ms. Juanita Harvey and her staff at P.E.R.L. for providing lunch to responders working on 23-October. Ms. Harvey delivered pizzas, drinks and desserts, along with gifts in appreciation and thanks to the Responders who serve our community. We extend a THANK YOU to Ms. Harvey and P.E.R.L. Everyone enjoyed the meal. |

18/October/2024 - Combine Fire - "C" Shift A large combine being moved on Confederate Hwy. (SC Hwy 641) near Halyard Road caught fire Friday morning 18-October at 11:07. The large piece of farming equipment was fully involved when Engine 18 arrived. The fire blocked both lanes of the rural highway and spread into the nearby woods. Engine 18 requested an additional Tender and a plow from the Forestry Commission. The combine was not loaded when the fire occurred. It was destroyed in the fire. 14/October/2024 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift A single vehicle accident sent two men to a Trauma Center Monday evening 14-Oct at 18:33. The incident occurred on Interstate 95 near the 52 mile marker southbound, when a single unit moving van suddenly left the roadway and struck several trees on the right shoulder. The box style truck received heavy damage in the collision, with the front of the box being ripped open ejecting the full load of furniture and household goods. The truck rolled over on its side and caught fire. Click here for additional information. |

14/October/2024 - Woods & Shed Fire - "B" Shift A woods fire near the intersection of Cayce Rd and Mt. Nebo Rd, burned several acres and spread to several outdoor sheds and an SUV Monday afternoon 14-Oct at 15:36. Engine 23 was originally dispatched to the incident as a woods fire, but arrived to find the vehicle and sheds on fire. The incident was upgraded to a structural response. bringing three additional stations to the scene. The Forestry Commission was also requested and sent a tractor to work the woods fire. Firefighters deployed multiple hand lines to extinguish the fire and protect a residence on the property. Click here for additional information. |

12 & 13 October - Agriculture/Farm Rescue Class Fire-Rescue hosted an agriculture/farm rescue class at Salkehatchie Forks Farms in Islandton Saturday & Sunday 12 & 13 October. The comprehensive course taught responders about farm equipment, farm animals, farm implement operations and rescue techniques related to farming equipment. Crews learned about grain bin extrication and the many challenges associated with farming equipment. The owners of the farm provided space for the classroom sessions, as well as the use of their equipment. Click here for additional information. |

12/October/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift Two people were injured in a three vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 near the 68 mile marker southbound Saturday morning 12-Oct at 11:11. The accident occurred on the Edisto River bridge and blocked all southbound traffic. A SB semi truck collided with a SB Utility truck which caused the semi truck to jackknife on the bridge. It then struck a SB Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck causing heavy damage and pinning the small pickup against the side of the bridge. Both occupants of the Tacoma were trapped in the wreckage. They suffered non-life threatening, multiple traumatic injuries. Click here for more information. |

10/October/2024 - Auto vs Bicycle with Air Evac - "A" Shift An adult male was critically injured when his bicycle was struck by a car in the 1200 block of Rivers Street at 19:42 Thursday evening 10-October. The man was traveling southbound on a dark section of the road when a southbound Volkswagen sedan collided with the bike. The man was wearing dark clothing and had no lights on the bicycle. He was ejected from the bike and found unconscious on the shoulder of the road. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly treated the man's multiple injuries at the scene and requested that a medical helicopter be placed on standby. Click here for additional information. |

07/October/2024 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift One person was shot in a domestic related incident at a residence located in the 400 block of Savage Street Monday morning 07-October at 00:56. The adult male received two wounds and was in stable condition at the scene. He was treated by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The Walterboro Police Dept is investigating the shooting. 05/October/2024 - High Speed MVC - "B" Shift An adult male was transported to a Trauma Center following an accident in the 300 block of Phillips Road, Saturday evening 05-October. At 18:44, 9-1-1 received several reports of a passenger car leaving the roadway and was overturned. The driver was out of the car and suffered injuries. Engine and Medic 19 arrived to find the car on its side with heavy damage. The westbound car had left the roadway, jumped a ditch and struck a pickup truck parked in a yard. The vehicle then struck a power pole, breaking the pole. Click here for additional information. |

03/October/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift An adult male was severely injured in a two vehicle MVC in the 13000 block of Charleston Hwy. (SC Hwy 64) just west of Jacksboro Road. The accident occurred Thursday morning at 11:00. Two west bound passenger cars collided, sending one vehicle into the ditch where it struck a driveway culvert, became airborne and struck several trees. The car overturned trapping the injured driver. No one was injured in the other vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro hydraulic and Pentheon Rescue Tools to remove the driver's side of the car and extricate the man. Click here for additional information. |

03/October/2024 - Annual Fire Prevention Education Thursday 03-October, kicked off the annual Fire prevention education, which began at Hendersonville Elementary School. The students learned many safety skills including how to Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothes were to catch on fire and about the importance of smoke detectors in the home. They interacted with Patches, Fire-Rescue’s Robotic Dalmatian and toured a Fire Engine and Ambulance. Fire Prevention activities are taught in all of the schools during the month of October to coincide with National Fire Prevention Week. Click here for additional information. |

01-October-2024 - Fatal MVC Mutual Aid - "A" Shift One person died and two others were critically injured in a MVC that occurred at Whetstones Crossroads in Bamberg County, Tuesday afternoon 01-October at 13:21. The location is about a half mile from the Colleton County line, where US Hwy 21 and SC Hwy 61 intersect. A northbound loaded log truck on US Hwy 21 collided with a passenger car who was traveling on SC Hwy 61. The log truck overturned, spilling its load of logs and then slid into the convenience store.
